Hobie Alter crafted a culture. He introduced millions of people to the joy of water, wind, and waves. Hobie created the most successful line of catamarans in the world with more than a hundred thousand Hobie Cats (R) built. And then he built a very special catamaran for himself and for his family and friends to enjoy. This is Katie Sue. The Hobie 60 Katie Sue is a bespoke double-owner's pilothouse power catamaran without equal. She was masterfully constructed and launched in Dana Point in 1990. Katie Sue was built without the influence of 'big boat' production ideas - only with Hobie's unique design/build talent and manufacturing expertise. She is custom in every regard and displays Hobie Alter's creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail in each aspect of her architecture. Her Divinycell cored hulls have beautifully rockered lines. She has bulbous bows beneath the water and flared bows above with resulting sea kindliness coupled with catamaran efficiency.

Her sterns are elegant, extended, and designed to be functional spaces for diving, anchoring and docking. Below her sterns are 'tuna tail' skegs completely protecting the running gear and rudders. Katie Sue's decks are wide and walkable; enclosed by solid stainless triple height rails and pulpits. Perched atop her deck is a masterpiece of architectural living space; a superstructure that cants fore and aft in perfect balance while exuding a constant sense of forward motion. Viewed from astern, the superstructure has the grace and symmetry of a Frank Lloyd Wright bungalow. Viewed from ahead it has the bruising capability of an Aleutian trawler. The deckhouse encloses a wide-open salon with galley, wet bar, stools, settee, entertainment center, systems monitoring, and a daybed. All look directly out at the wind and water. The view is perfect as only a catamaran can offer. The salon is sinuously coupled to individual owners' suites in each hull. Owner's suites that feature island queen cabins aft and enclosed private head and showers forward.
