Large windows sometimes require two sets of blinds. Blinds are an affordable window covering option that offer privacy and protection from harsh sunlight inside your home. If you can't find blinds wide enough to cover large windows, you can hang two sets of blinds in one window to create nearly seamless window coverage. An inside mount tends to work better when hanging two sets of blinds. It looks cleaner, and you can hide the two rails behind a blind valance. Measure the inside of the window casing horizontally along the top of the window. A metal tape measure works best because it can stay stiff across large window openings for a more accurate measurement. Measure the window horizontally again, this time near the center of the window. Measure a third time at the bottom of the window. Use the lowest number to help determine the size of blinds you need. Divide the lowest number by 2 to determine the basic width of each blind. For example, if your window is 100 inches wide, the basic width of each blind is 50 inches.

Call your blind manufacturer or go online to see how much they deduct for an inside mount. Some manufacturers deduct 1/2 inch from the width you send them to ensure the inside-mounted blinds don't scrape the sides of the window casing. Some only deduct 1/4 inch. Add half of the deduction amount to the basic blind width. Although you may need the extra space on one side of the mount, you want the inside mounts to butt next to each other to prevent a wide seam between the blinds. If your basic blind width is 50 inches and your blind manufacturer deducts 1/2 inch for inside mounts, the blind size you need to order is 50 1/4 inches. This gives the manufacturer room to make the size deductions while keeping your windows completely covered by blinds. Order one blind valance to cover both sets of blinds. If you order two blinds at 50 1/4 inches, order one blind valance that is 100 inches long. This helps hide the seam at the top of the blinds and extends the look of the window's casing. Measure the length of the window from the top inside casing to the inside of the window sill.

Provide the manufacturer with the accurate length you measure.
