With a great history of longevity, Eskies are considered "senior" when they reach 10 years of age! We have 13 & 14 year olds available who prance with the energy of young dogs but display the grace and manners of maturity! After a decade or more of unconditional love and loyalty, these animals should not be treated as trash by our "disposable" society. There may be health issues; many have had to overcome grooming and more serious medical issues. But our lives are much richer having known and cared for them. Help us give these dogs the love and dignity they deserve in their golden days -- Please browse through our list of Adoptable Seniors and consider giving a forever home to one of these wonderful Eskies!
If you're a "Sweet Senior" yourself, then you qualify for our Senior Program. 10 Reasons To Adopt a Sweet Senior like Me! I have a true story of why to adopt a senior eskie! I adopted Sparkle(a senior eskie)..... She was under Deborah Guske. Sparkle might be a senior eskie but she sure doesnt act like it... she is every bit as active (and sometimes more) than my eskie that just turned 5.... And them little eyes when she looks into mine... shows nothing but love... Seniors need love just as much as our young eskies do... I am very happy that I adopted her!!! And I know she will give me unconditional love for the rest of her life and she will get the same from me!!!! -- Sincerely, Marketta (March 13, 2007) Click to read: 10 reasons to adopt a Sweet Senior!American Eskimo Dog Breeders with Puppies for Sale American Eskimo Dog Puppies Commonly referred to as the Eskie, this breed is compact and strong. Ask a QuestionAbout American Eskimo Dogs AnonymousWhat's the difference between an American Eskimo and a Schipperke? 1 CommentAnonymousThe American Eskimo and the Schipperke are two completely different breeds of dogs. The American Eskimo is a small Spitz-type companion dog originating in Germany while the Schipperke is a small Spitz-type/Herding-type working dog originating in Belgium.
Although they look the same, they are not. The A.E.D is a playful fun-loving little dog that enjoys children and are very intelligent. While the Schipperke is a feisty little dog that is known for its protective nature to its owners, very intelligent and hard working, the little Schipperke never backs down and is always on alert. AnonymousI had an Eskimo that I had bought from a pet store as a purebred puppy, however, he was black with a few white markings. He was the most intelligent dog that I have ever seen and could think like a person. We were told that it is a throw back and breeders destroy these pups, normally. Do true purebreds come in black, too? 2 CommentsAnonymousI have never seen a black American Eskimo puppy ever. The only coloration deemed acceptable in the breed is white. However, it could be true as there are other throw back colors in other breeds. I would contact an established breeder and ask them this question as they would know more about the breed itself. No other color is acceptable, a colored dog that looks a lot like the Eskimo dog is the German Spitz while quite close in attitude they are two totally different breeds AnonymousMy American Eskimo Dog is a 10-year-old female and she's started gagging and spitting up.
She was on antibiotics and got better but now has remitted. She was always in good health ever since we got a pomeranian puppy and I'm not sure if it is related. 1 CommentAnonymousThe best thing to do is to take your dog back to the vet. It could be as simple as her having something like a hair or blade of grass caught in her throat, to something more serious, to nothing at all. Sometimes dogs will gag is they drink too much water and sort of cough it back up. But a vet check is always the best way to start ruling out what it could be.AnonymousWhat is the best food for a 6-week-old American Eskimo puppy? 1 CommentAnonymousYour puppy is too young to have left its mother. Please, for the sake of the puppy and yourself, contact a positive reinforcement trainer as soon as possible. You are going to have a lot of work on your hands. As for food, the best food to get your puppy is a high-quality grain-free puppy food. Your local pet store will have several brands for you to choose from.AnonymousAre American Eskimo Dog's good with kids?
4 CommentsAnonymousEskies are amazing with families that have children. I have had my Eskie for ten years and have three kids in the house. AnonymousEskies are good with kids and love getting attention from both children and adults, getting played with, petted, etc. American Eskimo Dog's were bred to be companion dogs.AnonymousAfter loving a dozen Eskies, they have taught me that they are kids, too. They treat everyone in the household as they would themselves, as a loving member of the home.AnonymousIf you socialize them well, they can be. However, I have known otherwise very intelligent and friendly Eskies who are very uncomfortable with children and bite them if they come too close.
