Our Brittanys have great noses, and are a pleasure to hunt over. We enjoy hunting, nose work/scent detection, tracking, agility, and obedience. Over the last 16 years we've achieved top 5 national rankings in agility, conformation and obedience, and titled in scent detection and field tests. I am originally from Northern Ontario (near Sault Ste. Marie), where my parents were hobby breeders of huskies. While dog sledding is an amazing display of athleticism and teamwork, huskies just weren't the breed for me.

My husband Gary had always hunted with spaniels. When we moved into our first house together in Calgary, we researched different breeds, and settled on Brittany Spaniels. We were lucky: Storm, our first Brittany, was a great dog. While Storm continued to hunt birds, he learned to think of our 5 pet ferrets as pack members. As for my professional experience, I am a Contributing Editor for the American Brittany Magazine, an agility judge (AAC), and Canine Good Neighbour evaluator (CKC). I formerly served on the Brittany Health Studies Committee (AKC), the CKC's all-breed Genetics and Medical Committee and Chaired the Non-field Performance Committee for the American Brittany Club. I was trained in scent detection by former US military dog trainer Andrew Ramsey, and currently instruct both classes and private clients in scent detection, obedience and agility. As an educator with BSc (Biology) and MD degrees, I understand the science behind: • science based dog training and breeding • scent and olfaction • behaviour evaluation and modification • nutrition and fitness • healthy pregnancy, labour and delivery, and caring for newborns. This knowledge and experience helps me to breed and raise puppies so they have the best start possible, and to teach others how to work with their dogs and reach their maximum potential.

It's thrilling to see other people and their dogs learn, improve their skills and overcome challenges to become stronger teams and competitors. While we use our dogs primarily for hunting they are competitive in the conformation ring and field trials.
