In 2012,The Dream Ride Experience decided to expand and add another element... on-site pet adoptions! The Dream Ride Experience believes that animals not only enrich us as individuals, but unify us as one community. Throughout the last three years, we are proud to say dozens of rescue animals have found happy, loving homes through The Dream Ride Experience. We not only save these animals, but they rescue us as well. Our furry friends are supportive companions who can make a huge difference in our world as a best friend, an exercise buddy, someone who can be trained to provide animal-assisted therapy and help those with challenges they may face, or simply be a fuzzy face to greet you after a hard day at work. Everyone benefits from the unconditional love animals give. Join the mission and help find our furry friends a "furever" home! To date, The Dream Ride Experience supports the following animal rescue organizations: Contact us to become a Pet Rescue with Dream Ride.

The shelter will be holding a "clear the shelter" weekend on Nov. 14 and 15 to find homes for "hard to adopt" older cats and cats who have been at the shelter for over a year. "Every cat has its own story," said Sharon Rodriguez, a volunteer at the shelter. There's Jasmine Girl, a 14-year-old cat whose owner became too sick to care for her any longer. And Lucy-Silver, who is 5 years old, has been at the shelter for four years."She has her moments, but she's a beautiful cat," Rodriguez said. "She is one we would really like to be adopted."Rodriguez said Lucy-Silver can be "temperamental" and that "some people get turned off by that" when they're adopting a cat."Some people come in looking for lap cats, and she's not going to be a lap cat," Rodriguez said. "She doesn't like to be around other cats, she wants to be the only cat, and a lot of people who come looking for cats already have one and are looking for a companion. That's not going to be Lucy."To find these cats a home, the shelter will be reducing adoption fees for eligible cats to $20 that weekend.

The hope is that they can clear shelter space so they can start caring for more cats.Rodriguez also said that some of these cats that appear to be scared or nervous are that way because they are in a shelter for too long."They go through their confusion of why am I here," Rodriguez said. "I was in a home and now I'm here in a cage."A lot of the cats, because of a connection the shelter has, actually come from New York. The shelter wants to clear space so they can help more area cats."It's important to get these cats a forever home so we can help local cats in need," Rodriguez said. "Finding homes for a lot of these cats will help us have space to focus more on local cats."The Connecticut Cat Connection, which is owned by Marianne Vieweg, is a no-kill shelter run completely by volunteers and relies heavily on donations. The clear-the-shelter weekend will be held from noon to 4 p.m. both days.
