I've been wearing these boots for two years now, nearly every day. I have not been gentle. Here's what I can tell you about them. When I first got them they were agonizing for my feet. I ripped out the inner soles and bought some cheap Spenco inner soles from amazon; After about a year, the inside fabric covering the heel cup wore away, and since then the thin plastic heel cup has also cracked and worn away in places. The elastic band holding the buckle has held up valiantly, but upon inspection, it's starting to fray. I've had the heel resoled twice, but the main sole is still original (if light on traction at this point). The leather has weathered, and the synthetic trim that wraps the edges of the leather is worn in expected places. I've worn these boots on 10 mile hikes with only a layer of black business socks in them, and my feet came out pristine;

compare this to the blisters my dismayed hiking-boot-fitted companions got. These boots have survived running through brush in woods, tumbling on stones and gravel, clambering on rocks in caves, and a week in the notoriously harsh environment at Burning Man. They're the most comfortable shoe I own, and they've got life in them yet; I'm buying another pair today so I'll have secured a spare when these finally bite the dust. This has been a very good boot. I love these boots. They have a great style and feel very comfortable for the most part. I believe another reviewer commented on the bottom being kind of hard and flat, and I would agree with that. I may try putting in some kind of shock absorbing insert. Still I'm very happy with these. Be aware that the bagpipe colored boot does not look anything like the colors pictured here on Zappos. Have a look at other sites to get a better idea, it is a single color light brown. Also, My feet are a size 8½W. I initially ordered an 8½ in these boots, but had to return that as the boot was easily a full size too large.

I went with a size 8 to replace it, and though it may be a touch longer than needed, the width is tight and I can tell this will turn into a comfortable boot in no time. Felt a half size larger than marked Extremely comfortable boot that looks great with jeans. Based on other reviews it should wear well for many years to come.
