MVP Orthopaedic Residency is a 50-week post-professional specialty program in orthopaedic physical therapy within a private practice clinical setting in Washington State. The purpose of the residency program is to improve a physical therapist’s examination and treatment proficiency within orthopaedics through a curriculum that includes clinical mentoring, independent study, online instruction, and classroom didactic/laboratory instruction. In addition to orthopaedic-specific knowledge areas, the curriculum will incorporate basic psychotherapy principles, pain science and interviewing skills within the curriculum to assist the resident in working with more complicated orthopaedic cases.

Program Start Dates: January 1st The clinical and didactic education corresponds with the requirements set forth by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) and includes: Give Back / Service to Others: Each orthopaedic resident will provide service to the community, company and profession through the following activities: Volunteer at MVP’s annual 5k run/walk fundraiser in April Perform a minimum of 10 hours of community service in a Saturday Bumps & Bruise clinic Provide a lecture at University of Puget Sound within the Program of Physical Therapy Be a clinical instructor to a physical therapy intern Compose a publication for submission to a professional journal and present to the MVP organization Residents are full-time MVP Physical Therapy employees and receive the same benefits as other PT staff which includes paid vacation/sick leave, birthday off, personal day off, medical/dental/vision coverage, malpractice insurance, 401k plan plus matching, life insurance, continuing education and partial APTA dues reimbursement.

The residency contract is valid for one year which covers the program duration. Participation in the program does not entitle the resident to employment by MVP Physical Therapy upon completion of the program. The tuition of the residency program will be covered by (1) the continuing education benefit of $2,500 allotted to each resident and (2) a percentage of the of the resident’s salary. The exact percentage is determined by Department of Human Resources and is discussed during the interview process. No additional costs will be expected from the resident.
