Based on the original book and concept by Peter Stone, the musical is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, Massachusetts and follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of Robbin' Hood of the Old West is murdered during her opening night curtain call. It is up to Lt. Frank Cioffi, a police detective who moonlights as a musical theater fan to save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself. Director's Notes Curtains is based on the original book and concept by Peter Stone.

The musical is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 at The Colonial Theater in Boston, Massachusetts. The story follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of Robbin ?? Stewart Hawley, Director of Curtains Director's Biography Stewart Hawley is from Houston and currently in his second year at Belhaven University as Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre. Last year, he directed The Drunkard. In Houston, Stewart directed such shows as Into the Woods, Fences, Fiddler on the Roof, School House Rock, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, and The Skin of our Teeth. He holds a MFA in Directing and is working towards a PhD in Theatre. Stewart is one of four Christian certified Stage Combat Teacher by the Society of American Fight Directors.

A group of stage actors lock themselves in the theater for a rehearsal of their upcoming musical production, unaware that an escaped psychopath has sneaked into the theater with them. A former summer camp caretaker, horribly burned from a prank gone wrong, lurks around an upstate New York summer camp bent on killing the teenagers responsible for his disfigurement. She naturally assumes she has been given the title role in his latest venture, "Audra".

He tells her that she nn needs to do some background research on the part, so arranges to have her committed to an asylum (as Audra is a former psychiatric patient). She goes along with this, not realising that he intends to leave her there indefinitely and audition six young women of various professions for the part instead. She finally manages to escape, and returns to the spooky old mansion where the auditions are taking place. But who is causing the disappearances of the young hopefuls??
