We began rescuing Dachshunds in September of 2000 and our membership has grown yearly. In September of 2001 we incorporated and we received 501(c)3 status in February 2003. And, despite our name, we are no longer only in Central Texas, but have members and volunteers throughout the state of Texas and beyond. All dogs that come through Central Texas Dachshund Rescue have been fully vetted before adoption. This includes a health exam by a veterinarian, the vaccinations appropriate for its age, and a heartworm test and preventative.

All dogs are spayed or neutered before being adopted. Our network of foster families provide safe and secure temporary homes, good nutrition, medical care, and socialization skills for our fosters. Unlike a shelter or humane society, our dogs are not in one central location, but spread throughout many foster homes across the state. We realize that this makes it difficult to 'come meet our dogs,' but we believe the one-on-one care our dachshunds receive is well worth the inconvenience.

We will work with you to schedule a meet and greet with one or more of our dogs that are determined to be a good match for you and your family. Adoption Fee:On average, we spend $296 in vet expenses on each dog that we take in.
