Our initial aim was to bridge the gap between local animal shelters in Louisville, Kentucky, and approved rescues outside the state to facilitate placement of local dogs in urgent situations. To ease some of the difficulties that can arise when dealing with a government shelter, we provided quality photos of the animals, quality communication between the rescue and shelter, pulling assistance, and help with getting dogs to transports. Alongside these efforts, DCDR also began serving as a small local rescue--taking a very limited number of dogs from area shelters, placing them into foster homes, and handling their adoptions.
DCDR has since grown into one of the largest dog rescues in the area. At any given time, we have an average of 75-100 dogs in our local adoption program, and we still continue our efforts to get others to safety with our out-of-state partner rescues. To date, DCDR has saved nearly 2000 dogs with this combined approach. Most DCDR dogs are rescued when they are out of time in the shelter or in need of medical treatment the shelter cannot provide. We are a founding member, along with Slugger City Bully Buddies and Tails Pet Photography, of the Rescue Me! connects professional photographers and rescues/shelters to produce professional photographs of their animals for marketing across Facebook, Petfinder, Adoptapet, and in area businesses. In addition, we partner with other rescues, shelters, and animal advocacy groups to participate in events and programs that raise awareness of, and work toward solutions to, the plight of homeless pets in our community. All of our rescue efforts are accomplished by a small, all-volunteer group of dedicated individuals who work together to achieve the common goal of saving hearts, one paw at a time. These efforts are supported by an equally dedicated (and awesome!) base of foster homes, donors, and volunteers, whose support is instrumental to our success. One of our volunteers will make contact with the applicant within 48 hours, if at all possible, to confirm receipt and/or discuss any items on the application that need clarification.
Four references will be needed: vet and three personal. If we are not able to reach all, we contact the applicant to request alternate references. If all references are good, we conduct a home visit and meet-and-greet. Local applicants are allowed to opt for a trial or finalize adoption immediately. When the adoption is finalized, an adoption contract is signed, the fee is paid. All medical paperwork, microchip ID, etc., for the adopted dog is transferred to the adopter within a reasonable time of receipt of contract and fee. Fees are $200 per dog.The process for long-distance adoption is slightly different and may take more time. The feasibility of long-distance adoptions are contingent on the availability of transportation or the adopter's willingness to travel to pick up the pet. In some long-distance cases, there may be transportation costs to be paid by the adopter.Bulldog Breeders with Puppies for Sale The Bulldog is moderate in size, heavy, and built low to the ground. Ask a QuestionAbout Bulldogs AnonymousMy son is bringing his 2 year old Victorian bulldog to my home, but his dog is not neutered, can he hurt my cocker spaniel ? She is a female 2 years old, she is spayed? 1 CommentAnonymousIf the dog is a well socialized and well trained dog and if your dog is as well, then they should get along just fine. But I would have separate area's set up so that your dog can have her own space and his dog can have his own space to begin with.
Allow the dogs to meet each other on a loose leash outside of the home first, like at a park and then go for a walk together. Then once the dogs are relaxed and tired, go back to the house and supervise their off leash interactions. If the Cocker seems nervous and anxious, then allow her to go to her own space where the Bulldog can not bother her. It takes time for dogs that are not used to having another dog around to be comfortable.AnonymousCan the Bulldog breed live in a tropical country? 1 CommentAnonymousThe English and French Bulldog is known and beloved for its short/squishy face. But sadly, those faces can make life difficult for the dog when it comes to getting enough air and for regulating his/her temperature. However, if the proper cautions are taken care of, either breed should be able to live in a tropical area. The dog must have access to fresh/cool water at all times, shade if the dog is outside, but also be able to be inside with air conditioning. If those needs are met, the dog should do just fine.
AnonymousHow many years can a Bulldog live? What is the Bulldogs life expectancy? 1 CommentAnonymousDepending on the genetics, diet, and general health, Bulldogs can live between 8-12 years but longer lives are not unheard of.AnonymousWhy does my Bulldog vomit one two days a week? 2 CommentsAnonymousBulldogs are not a breed that chews the food. Mostly EBD's gulp and just swallow the food. This adds a lot of air to the stomach because of inhaling. Sometimes the trapped air comes up like a burb and the food above the air comes out as well. This usually happens in a short amount of time after the dog eats. The other condition that causes this is because of drinking a lot of water right after eating. Again, because the food is not chewed, when the water is added, the food swells up. Again, causing possibly a too full tummy and again the water and the food is expelled. There are dog food bowls that can slow down how fast the dog can eat. Check pet food stores or online. Many different designs that slow down how fast they can inhale the food.
AnonymousI had a Bulldog named Sissy. I looked at her one day because after she would eat then it would all come up. I felt her neck because it look bigger than it should. So we went to the vet and he did a bio; come to find out she had cancer. I'm not trying to scare you, but maybe you should get her checked out. I used to breed Bulldogs and I just lost my last little guy a year ago. Now I'm ready to get another one. His name was Peewee and I miss him a lot. Just be safe with yours. I'm not saying you have the same problem but just check.AnonymousHow much does a grown old English Bulldog weigh? 1 CommentAnonymousA full grown EBD can range from 40-55 pounds for a female and 55-90 for a male. To know how big your bulldog will be, be sure a look at both the mom and the dad. The European purebred English Bulldog is about 20% bigger than the United Sates bred EBD. While the Bulldog Club of America lists the "standard" weight, the current breeders of EBD are creating a slightly bigger Bulldog.
