German Shepherd Puppies For Adoption In Albany Ny

Welcome to Highlander German Shepherds.  We are a small hobby breeder that is dedicated to the betterment of the German Shepherd breed.  Our dogs are working service and therapy dogs with spectacular pedigrees comprised of World Sieger Champions.   Highlander German Shepherd dogs and puppies are very special members of our family.  They have been carefully chosen for temperament, health, and type from the finest West German bloodlines.  A joy to live with and love, they have been lovingly nurtured in our home which has made them very confident and social.  Highlander German Shepherd puppies are raised in our home as a part of our family.  Human imprinting starts literally from birth.  They go out into the world loving people confidently and easily embedding themselves in their new family's hearts.  Our home and lives are built around our dogs that are carefully monitored in every way.We have 45 plus years of experience with German Shepherds that includes Police K9, narcotic detection, search and rescue, advanced obedience, personal protection, animal assisted therapy, service dog training/handling, as well as loving family companion dogs.
We are extremely proud of our dogs and love them more than words can say, they are a vital part of our lives.  We do not mass produce puppies.  Having a few (2) select litters per year enables us to give each puppy individual attention, human imprinting, and socialization.  A tremendous amount of thought and consideration on our part is done prior to placing a puppy with a family.  Placing our puppies is an adoption process and a great responsibility.  We will personally meet with you to see if one of our puppies is a good match for your family.  If we feel that that match just isn't there your deposit will be refunded in full.  Our commitment to our puppies does not stop at the adoption but continues throughout their life, as we strive to be available at any time to the adoptive families to assist them in achieving the best relationship between them and their newest family member.  Highlander German Shepherds is a family run breeding program that is comprised of myself (Alisia) and my parents: Tom & Lorraine.
This is not a business but rather a labor of love, belief in, and dedication to the fabulous German Shepherd breed.  A Reason To BelieveBefore my dad was a Detective he was a Police K9 trainer/handler.  Initially when he went to pick his future partner at the county canine headquarters my dad was immediately drawn to a striking black German Shepherd that was named Satan.  Dlna T ShirtsAs their eyes met for the very first time a loving bond was forever formed.  Maine Coon Cat Breeders UtahWhen he informed the head of the canine facility of his choice there was a long silent pause followed by a surprising response.  Giant Schnoodle Puppies For Sale In Ohio"I am sorry Officer, that dog is no good in fact he will be destroyed as he cannot be handled by any man.
Satan is ferocious and has been through multiple handlers with no success.  Please choose another dog."  My dad knew what he saw in Satan's eyes ...  "A Reason To Believe."  That day changed both of their lives for the better as my father believed in Satan when nobody else did.  Satan was not ferocious unfortunately up until that point he had never been loved or cared for.  Prior to being donated to the canine unit he suffered from inexcusable medical neglect and physical abuse.  All Satan needed was love and medical attention that my family provided without hesitation.  Satan responded immediately to his new loving family and medical treatment.  So much so that he became a phenomenal family companion and one of the very best police dogs in the region.  Satan was highly recognized and honored for having the highest number of narcotic detections and successful search and rescues in the history of the department.  Satan retired from police work when my Dad became a Detective and lived out his life with us despite the fact that the very people who planned to destroy him requested that my Dad donate him back to them as he was such an extraordinary police dog.
Of course Satan stayed with us .... family is family! When we were in the dreaming phase of what was to become Highlander German Shepherds - Satan was what we had in mind.  He represented the ideal German Shepherd.  He was extremely well rounded, possessed unmatched intelligence, devotion, love, drive in all respects, strength, confirmation, agility, etc.  That type of well rounded German Shepherd is what we are all about - a reason to believe. All of our dogs are trained for real life situations and are loving family companions.  They work as therapy and service dogs, are trained in advanced obedience, tracking, and personal protection among other things.            If you are interested in one of our puppies please complete the puppy application.  Feel free to call between 10am - 7pm.Search and see photos of adoptable pets in the Albany, New York area Our Featured Albany, NY Partner: Adopt A Stray - NY ChapterHome   Available Dogs   Adoption Information  Foster a Dog

Check out our wishlist- we need donations! We at Shepherds Hope Rescue desperately need the help of our wonderful friends and supporters.  We have just taken in two wonderful dogs, both owner surrenders, both not spayed or neutered and needing medical attention before we can find them their new forever family. Dolly is a beautiful one-year-old red sable shepherd who was abandoned and tied to a tree in someone's backyard with a note that said they couldn't take care of her anymore.   A friend contacted us and we just couldn't say no, afraid she might fall into the wrong hands. And a heartbreaking story of  our beloved Bear, who frequently has shown up on our FB site, needs a new home because his beloved owner is very ill and can't take care of him.
We are so devastated for both Bear and his owner.  We now have Bear in our care and looking for another loving home for him. The medical, housing and transport expenses for these wonderful dogs have put a huge burden on our already slim resources.  By opening your heart you will help us help these amazing dogs and continue to help other shepherds in need.  Please make a donation today, the dogs are counting on you. Dolly, Tiki and Bear Supporters: Denotes a minimum $500 donation We are so proud of our Mavrick who is now an official K-9 of the Philadelphia Police Department.  We congratulate Mavrick and his handler Officer O'Brien for their hard work and dedication.  We wish you a long and happy career together and we pray for your safety.  Way to go Mav!!! AFTER:  Mav with his new family                    BEFORE: Mav wandering the streets So begins the latest adventure!    Mavrick was found dragging a heavy chain and ended up at a rural shelter in North Carolina with next to no options of being adopted.
German shepherds are not put on the adoption floor and require a rescue to take them.  No one came to claim him. After being at the shelter for a few days, the staff saw his crazy energy level and said 'this boy needs a job'.  They contacted us and we went to go and take a look.  As sick as Mavrick was with horrible kennel cough, he was raring to go.  Hung off a towel and almost shredded it, wouldn't give up a ball or squeaky toy for even the most tasty treat.   He's now with his foster mom and upon completion of his isolation, he will be transported and going into K-9 training class with Philadelphia's finest.  Please send up some good thoughts and prayers for our boy.   He is being treated for his kennel cough, will be neutered and we're working on his transport. Mavrick hopes a few angels will step forward and donate to help make this possible.  Although we've been bogged down with medical and special food costs for Zeus, we just couldn't let this opportunity pass by for Mav.

For the love of Mavrick: Jane, Dave and Misha Linda and Philip OkunJane and Dave DoyleAfter a 9 1/2 hour drive today, Mavrick is now with the Philly K-9 unit.  What a brave and sweet boy he is.  Here is Mavrick at the halfway point and is waiting for his pickup to start the beginning of his new adventure. We are soooooooooooo rooting for you, our boy.  We know you will make us proud! We are thrilled to announced that Zeus and Pepper (now Hasso and Heidi) were adopted TOGETHER to the most wonderful home.  Their story truly had a fairy tale ending!Just under two years old, Zeus and Pepper were given up due to an asthmatic family member. Zeus is a gentle giant.  At 81 pounds, he is a good 20 pounds underweight and has suffered with terrible and painful skin allergies.  Our vet determined he has severe food allergies.  We have adjusted his diet, he's receiving medicated baths twice weekly and is on medications.  He will be one majestic boy when he's fully mended!
And just as sweet as they come. Pepper is the cutest, spunkiest little girl.  She is very petite with charming floppy ears and the softest coat.  She loves to play and will jump up to give kisses freely. We are looking to place them together.  They have been together since 3 months old.  They are just perfect for a home with lots of love to give and plenty of room to run and play. They have won our hearts and we are certain they will win yours, too!! Click on the Angel to help Pepper and Zeus. Meet Bear, the newest member of our Shepherds Hope Family.  He's had a really rough start in his short life, but he won't have to worry ever again. Bear is really a large puppy and very strong, he will need an experienced GSD owner who will continue to teach Bear new things and socialize him. Because of Bear's size and energy level, we prefer an adult-only household for him. Bear is available for adoption in NORTH CAROLINA/SOUTH CAROLINA and surrounding areas.  and submit an application for review.
Bear may be a bit of a diamond in the rough, but with the right family he is sure to shine.I'm settling into my foster home and I thought I would give you and update on how I am doing. My tummy was a little upset last night but my foster mom comforted me and I feel much better. I also have something called a "bed." It is the most wonderful thing in the world! I can't believe how lucky I am. I've started learning about manners, too. I'm walking on leash, learning to "sit" and not jump on people. It's all new to me, but my foster mom says I'm really smart and I pick up new things quickly. But you know what the best thing is? I'm with people who love me and give me lots of attention. I need to thank everyone who has donated for my care. I've never known such love. More updates later . . .My name is Bear and I'm the newest addition to Shepherds Hope. I haven't had the best start in life but I'm safe now and ready for the future. I'm just 11 months old and I have my whole life ahead of me.
