HEART OF TEXAS GREAT DANE CLUB, INC. The Heart of Texas Great Dane Club is licensed by the American Kennel Club enabling us to hold Great Dane Specialty shows and we are proudly the 50th Affiliate member of the Great Dane Club of America. The Heart of Texas Great Dane Club and the Great Dane Club of America both serve to educate and support owners and breeders of the dog breed known variously as the Great Dane, Grand Danois, Deutsche Dogge, or German Mastiff. Our Club meets (please see our calendar) on the second Wednesday of every month, although an exception occurs in August when we have our annual summer picnic. In December we hold our Holiday party. All meetings are posted on this site. Our meetings consist of discussions of club business, planning for Dane-oriented events, announcements of interest to Dane owners, educational presentations or group discussions, and a time to socialize with other Dane owners. Everyone is invited to join us at a meeting providing they hold a sincere interest in Great Danes and the preservation of ethical breeding and ownership.
Our membership is composed of not only those people interested in the dog show arena, both conformation and performance, but also to those owners of companion dogs and rescue dogs. We welcome, and encourage, fanciers of the breed to join us at our meetings and freely participate Feel free to explore our web site and learn more about us, our dogs, and our activities.Like every rescue group, we need food, money, and foster homes! looking for foster homes and volunteers in the Central Texas area. For more information see theEverything’s better in Texas and our Backwoods store in Fort Worth is proof of that! We are the only Backwoods store with a full and complete Fly Fishing department so you know where to head when the trout and bonefish are calling your name. In fact we even carry kayaks including Hobie Mirage Drive systems and Diablo Paddle Sports models. The most important factor that sets the Fort Worth Backwoods store apart from all the other outdoor shops is our outstanding staff! These men and women are generous, passionate outdoor enthusiasts that just want to help customers get more enjoyment out of life.
Whether it’s fitting a backpack, recommending a hydration system or selecting the best tent for camping, our staff works to understand the needs of each customer to determine which products are best suited to that individual’s skill level, interest and budget. A big part of advising a customer about our outdoor gear is having firsthand knowledge of how the gear performs in the field. Whether it’s general equipment for camping, or specialty gear, we believe in field-testing and take our employees to a variety of nearby locations including the Trinity River, which has an expansive trial system thanks to Streams and Valleys. For testing our hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering gear, we make use of the Fort Worth nature center; it has incredible trails right next to Lake Worth. We are always striving to make sure customers have fun while shopping at Backwoods, and we enjoy hosting events and demonstrations onsite. Our favorite event in recent memory was the “Banff Film Festival”.
We highlighted the beauty of Banff and the myriad of activities it provides; everyone had a wonderful time together and the customers were very enthusiastic and involved. It’s also fun when customers just stop by to visit during the week and some even bring their pets – we’ve had drop-ins from a set of pretty impressive Great Danes and even a pink toy poodle once visited our store! We’ve been operating our Backwoods store in Fort Worth since 1978 and have built a reputation throughout the community. When we open the doors each morning our staff brings a collective total of 57 years of experience to share when talking with our customers. We’ve traveled to a huge range of destinations including Peru, The Bahamas, South Africa, Costa Rica, Russia, Norway, Netherlands, Finland, England, Scotland, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Greece and backpacking in Turkey and China and understand the needs and demands of an adventure travel trip. Our typical customer is an avid traveler, a fly fisherman, and you’ll find families and college students shopping here for everything from barefoot running shoes to trekking poles.
