National Great Pyrenees RescueGreat Pyrenees Breeders with Puppies for Sale Sometimes stubborn and independent, the Great Pyrenees is very loyal but wary of unfamiliar people or animals. Basically well mannered and affectionate, this breed does do well for companion purposes but shows his true colors in a country environment.Does your Great Pyrenees bark, howl, and cry whenever you leave the house? Shedding heavily once a year, the Great Pyrenees requires much maintenance during this period. Regular brushing is always necessary with a medium to long haired breed, and should be brushed all the way to the undercoat to prevent matting. Occasional baths are acceptable. The Great Pyrenees can prove difficult to handle, and train. However, they are very eager to work and please their owner. With the right training techniques, a dominant handler, and proven methods, this breed should be very obedient and loyal. There are several accepted methods of house training your new Great Pyrenees puppy.

The Great Pyrenees does not do well in apartment life, and should always have a medium to large sized yard. Regular runs off lead are best for this large dog, but supervised walks will also do. They can either be trimmed like normal dew claws, or removed when you get your dog spayed/neutered.AnonymousIs Great Pyrenees suitable to stay in india? 1 CommentAnonymousNo, India is much too hot for a Great Pyrenees. Please search for breeds that were created in India and so can tolerate the heat of India.AnonymousCan a Great Pyrenees tolerate the heat living in southern Florida?

2 CommentsAnonymousThe Great Pyrenees' would not do well in Southern Florida, their fur is too thick and they should not be shaved.AnonymousI would not recommend a Pyr for Florida. We lived in Northern Virginia and made twice daily trips to the river as it was too hot to exercise. Now we live in Alaska and our Pyrs love it.AnonymousGreat Pyrenees' ears are up and not resting down like lop-eared bunnies. Is this right or not? Would that tell me it is a mix of some kind and not a purebred Pyrenees puppy? 1 CommentAnonymousA Great Pyrenees' does not have up-right ears. Most likely your pup is not a purebred. I would consult a vet, your breeder and then if all else fails, take a DNA test for your dog.3699zakmiaWhy do some Great Pyrenees dogs bark all night long? 1 CommentAnonymousThe Great Pyrenees is an amazing guardian/flock protection dog that knows it's job just by instinct. If a dog is barking all night long, then there is something wrong. Either a predator is around and the dog is trying to keep it at bay.

Or there has been a change that the dog can not control within the flock or family it is guarding and the dog wants to alert the owners to the problem (in the dogs mind). It could also be that the dog senses something wrong, and has not been taught to distinguish that situation/person/thing as friend or foe and is again -- trying to alert the owners. Aria - Female - SOLD Mia - Female - SOLD Dalton - Male - SOLD Landen - Male - SOLD Our Keeshond sires are Dietrich and Schultz and our dams are Padme and Willie. Each of our females only have one litter every other year, and are spayed after three litters for the safety of both mother and any pups. Keeshonden tend to be medium-sized, very playful, with quick reflexes and strong jumping ability. They are quick learners and eager to please, they make excellent agility and obedience dogs. So amenable to proper training is this bright, sturdy dog, that Keeshonden have been successfully trained to serve as guide dogs for the blind; only their lack of size has prevented them from being more widely used in this role.

They love children and are excellent family dogs, preferring to be close to their humans whenever possible. They generally get along with other dogs as well and will enjoy a good chase around the yard. Keeshonden are very intuitive and empathic and are often used as comfort dogs. at least one Keeshond, Tikva, was at Ground Zero on 9/11 to help comfort the rescue workers. The breed has a tendency to become especially clingy towards their owners, even in comparison to other dogs. If their owner is out, or in another room behind a closed door, they may sit, waiting for their owner to reappear, even if there are other people nearby. Many have been referred to as their “owner’s shadow,” or “velcro dogs”. They are known by their loud, distinctive bark. Throughout the centuries, the Keeshond has been very popular as a watch dog on manors in the Netherlands and middle Europe. This trait is evident to this day, and they are alert dogs that warn their owners of any new visitors.
