In the first census, in 1850, there were only 204 people living in Monroe. In 2000, the city of Monroe was the home town for more than 26,000 citizens and, after another 10 years, in 2010, the population of the city reached an incredible number of almost 32,800 residents. This rapid growth is supported by the economic development of the city, mainly based on the businesses that are developed there, the agriculture of the surrounding area, the tourism industry and the institutions in the city. The city of Monroe attracts many visitors due to its heritage.
