It’s also the place to find a bargain and a growing community of preservation enthusiasts who are helping transform the city’s historic downtown. You can see some of the properties available for rehab at an Open House on Sunday, September 11, from 2-4pm. The Paul Borden House, the Traylor-Peacock House (recently featured in This Old House Magazine) and the Bryan-Stanton-Holmes House will all be open. Downtown Goldsboro’s award-winning revitalization effort is part of a 10-year city plan. Several historic properties are being lovingly restored, some well on their way to being finished. With potential incentives including down-payment assistance, grants for small-business owners, façade improvement grants and historic preservation tax credits, the area is primed for revitalization success. Preservation NC is an active partner with the City of Goldsboro in the revitalization of the residential historic district near downtown. Over the last decade, PNC has helped save twenty vacant historic houses on the edge of the commercial downtown.

The Traylor-Peacock House (right), which was featured in the September issue of This Old House Magazine, is one of several properties available for rehab in Goldsboro. It was built in 1895 and has 3 bedroom and 2 bathrooms, and has a side-hall plan. Please click here to learn more about this property, which comes with a nearly 1/4-acre lot! In 2015, PNC bought two key historic houses to save them from demolition. The Paul Borden House (pictured at right) is a fine 1920 brick Craftsman bungalow, and is available for purchase now. Preservation NC is doing extensive structural work to both of these houses in order to prepare them for private renovation as homes. The work completed to date has been made possible by generous grant support from the donors listed below. Additional funding is still needed to ensure the remaining stabilization work can be completed.
