Other recent accomplishments include the Packer Scholastic Bowl team which were Conference 18 Champions and placed second in 4A East Region. and the Packer Wrestling team finished 2nd place in their Region and sent 8 wrestlers to the state championship. Smithfield High School also enjoyed a banner year in boy’s and girl’s basketball season, with both teams winning the Bay Rivers District titles. The Packers’ boys finished unbeaten in district play to earn a first-ever Bay Rivers title, while the girls tied with defending champion Tabb to grab their first BRD championship banner. For the third year in a row, Isle of Wight County Schools has been certified platinum in the 2015 Virginia School Board Association’s (VSBA) Green Schools Challenge.

Carrollton Elementary School teacher, Haley Hanson, was named Isle of Wight County’s 2014 Division Teacher of the Year.   Smithfield High School junior Kirana Perera wins the National Beta Club Harris Leadership award.  Perera is the only high school student in the state of Virginia to receive this prestigious honor.  Smithfield High School Athletics hosts a College Signing day for three star athletes. Seniors Michael Morehead, Alexandria Nowak and Jordon Garlow each sign letters of intent to continue playing their respective sports at the collegiate level.
