Moreover, 17,153 notices have been issued to the defaulters and action will be initiated against them if they fail to respond, the civic body said. On Tuesday, the MC sealed 16 shops, falling in three markets, against whom Rs 9 lakh tax was pending. As per information, there are a total of 46,849 properties, including residential and commercial, within the Phagwara municipal limits. The MC has collected only Rs 2.82 crore against the target of `3.40 crore till March 31. The civic body is yet to collect the pending arrears of two years as residents paid Rs 2.66 crore in 2013-14 and Rs 1.01 crore in 2014-15 against the target of Rs 3.5 crore each.
