A small national trust property which we visited on a wet afternoon.
Not many artifacts to see, but property retains its feel of a family home. Best for members as probrobably not good value for money. Ok, the truth is we didn't go into the house itself, even though we're Trust members. And a few mugs of hot chocolate in the cellar cafe.Diverter On Moen Kitchen Faucet Very peaceful spot given its location...Yngwie T Shirt We have been to quite a few NT properties as we are members and this was very interesting. Indoor Wall Lights HomebaseThe staff were the most friendly and informative that we have come across, they were prepared to spend as long as you wanted explaining the history of the house and its former owners. The situation is great, just next to the Cathedral... We enjoyed the house, room guides were really friendly and informative, the Roman talk in the cellar was spooky but my son coped with it, the cafe is nice but dark, the gardens are a beautiful tranquil oasis in the city, a lovely place to spend a couple of hours.
Whilst in York we used our new National Trust membership to visit Treasurer's House and were very pleased we did. As the weather was awful we were not able enjoy the gardens but that just meant we had more time to explore the house and take in the history of its owners. In addition we experienced the ghost story in... Very interesting house lots of history, go down to the cafe' you can hear the tales of the ghosts in the room next door.. Well worth a visit. This was very expensive for what you get. There wasn't much to see in the house so I would have skipped this place. We enjoyed touring this amazingly beautiful home. We learned about the haunted cell and enjoyed listening to the stories and history of this house. we walked towards this building ,curious to see what was held inside,we were not disappointed,a good place for a visit We were in York and have a National Trust membership so decided to visit Treasurer's House. We went into the basement for the short Ghost story.
Highly recommended and very creepy! I struggled to find a rational explanation for it.... The house itself is an interesting insight into the mind of an unusual owner. Ingram House is a historic building in the district of Bootham, York, England. It was built as an almshouse for ten poor widows between 1630 and 1640 by real estate developer and politician Sir Arthur Ingram and was originally known as Ingram's Hospital. It was damaged during the Siege of York and was restored in 1649.[1] It is the most important mid-seventeenth century building in Bootham, pre-classical and composed of eleven bays of two low storeys, but with a four-storey central tower.[2] The middle doorway dates back to the Norman period, and is believed to have once been a doorway to Holy Trinity Priory. Charles I of England stayed at the house in 1642. In 1959, it was converted into four flats.[2] It was listed as a Grade II* building in 1954.
