Things have finally settled down here. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are finally in the books. I can not thank the members of this departme...nt that gave up everything to assist with the house fire, medical calls and rescues these last few days enough.

For over 50+ hours with minimal sleep (naps) we pulled together and evacuated residents all over our district getting them to safety. We ran into a lot of kinks along the way one of the main ones was losing our main radio tower limiting communication on and off but we never lost site of what our main goal was. Water rescue is a totally different mind set than what we do day to day. When you are walking through chest deep water to help people not knowing what lies beneath you, but everyone kept their focus. Once the water subsided and people were able to enter our city the support and appreciation from our very own community and surrounding communities began dropping off hot meals to us. Not once did anyone complain about eating ham sandwiches prior to that. A special thanks to the ladies of our department that took a load off of us to answer the phones, assisted with paperwork and rushed to make sandwiches for each crew in between each call( some being consumed on the way to the call).

We have members that also suffered loss in their home and cars, but please know that this TEAM is still there for each other to rebuild and come back stronger. It is an honor for me to work side by side with everyone. There is no I in TEAM, we are ONE. Today starts the cleaning of apparatus piece by piece. I could go on and on praising each individual person but then that breaks up the true meaning of TEAM. Another special thanks to the Broussard, Milton, Carencro and Scott Fire Departments that assisted us in areas of our district when we were unable to get there.
