We do not add standard or hybrid dogs. Vaccinations and Heartworm Preventative Please discuss a vaccination schedule for your cat or dog with your personal veterinarian. Vets normally vaccinate puppies at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks and 15 weeks. This puppy vaccination covers parvo, distemper, corona virus as well as other viruses to which your puppy can be exposed. The puppy should receive the rabies vaccination at 12 weeks or 15 weeks. Vets normally vaccinate kittens at 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 12 weeks for feline viral rhinotrachetus (FVR), feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline panleukopenia (FPL). Rabies vaccination are done at 12 weeks. Feline leukemia and Feline Infectious peritonitis (FIP) are both fatal to cats and vaccinations are done at the 12 week age range. Adult cats need a booster, rabies, feline leukemia and FIP vaccination yearly. Please discuss feline leukemia and FIP with your vet.

Adult dogs and cats require annual booster vaccinations as well as an annual rabies vaccination. Adult dogs should be tested for heartworms each year by your veterinarian. Heartworms are transmitted to dogs and cats by mosquitos. This is a painful, debilitating and fatal disease and it can be prevented by monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm preventative is a few dollars each month, but well worth protecting your pet. Treatment for heartworms is expensive and painful to your pet. I have three dogs and a cat of my own. My favorite sports teams are: Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and the Atlanta Falcons.  I have been doing animal welfare for 10 years. I have lots of experience in animal cruelty investigations, handling stray roam calls, handling police call outs, dealing with the customer complaints, and I am certified in euthanasia. I do this job because I love animals and I love helping them out of bad situations. T. Jackson, Animal Enforcement Officer: I am and have been an officer for Animal Welfare Enforcement for 4 years. I enjoy and love my job by being able to give a better quality of life to an animal by rescuing it out of a precarious situation or educating the owners about better responsible ownership. On my off time I do enjoy abstract art, tattoos, video games, guns, and loud music.

I play percussion in my church band and it is a great stress relief from the hard times that occasionally come from this job. Vinson, Animal Enforcement Officer I was born and raised in the North Georgia Mountains. Growing up I have always been involved and loved working with animals. I have been very blessed to be raised owning and working with horses and have always had a dog by my side. I’ve worked in management for the past 15 years. first in the fast food industry for 2 years, then found myself wanting to be and work outdoors. I was Foreman for a landscaping company for 4 years. An opportunity came along to work in retail and so I decided to take the opportunity and grow and learn in a different area. I worked for Home Depot for 2 years in North Georgia, then decided to make a big change and move to the city of Macon, where I worked for Home Depot for the next 4 years.

But my passion for working with animals grew stronger. I decided to get into a field where I could help the community and the animals and found myself applying at Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare. Here, I have found my home. I look forward to doing all I can do to help educate and make a difference in the community and in the lives of the helpless animals. T. Belew, Kennel Supervisor: My name is Tracey Belew, I am 27 years old and have a wonderful husband and two children. Over the past three years I have been the dispatcher, office assistant,adoption and volunteer coordinator, and currently hold my favorite position as Interim Kennel Supervisor. I have had the privilege during my career at MBCAW to have worked on the spay/neuter ordinance, become a member of the Joint Task Force, represented MBCAW on the 5×5 Committee, and now I am a member of the Emergency Support Function. At this point in my career I enjoy making sure the animals are properly taken care of while they are at our facility, which includes getting appropriate medical care,as well as nutrition, and daily care.
