So I let her take him out and I let her hold him and snuggle on him. She was explaining to me how she had rescued two kittens,” says LeVasseur.The woman promised to give the kitten a good home.“The life that she was describing to me sounded like it would absolutely be a better situation for it…have more attention, be indoors and have a playmate. Without hesitation at that point, I let the kitty go home with them,” LeVasseur goes on to say.Rene told the woman adopting the kitten that they could return the kitten to her home at any time.“If you can't keep this kitty just bring it back. We'll be here,” LeVasseur continues.The kitten was brought back dead with what deputies say was a head injury.“The cat suffered a head injury. To what extent, we don’t know. We're going to do the best that we can to try to make some sense of it and bring some closure to the community,” Lt. Chris Barsheff says.The woman who adopted the kitten has come forward, while deputies also work to find the kitten's cause of death.“

We are making arrangements to have the cat looked at by a local veterinarian to see if they can determine the cause of death or what the injuries may have come from,” concludes Barsheff.
