Kohler Shower Diverter Valve Repair

Your Kohler Forte kitchen faucet has a single handle that operates both the hot and cold water depending on where you position the handle. Forte faucets provided with sprayers have an additional line that feeds from the center of the faucet body. The sprayer hose attaches to the additional line, so when you press the trigger on the sprayer, the diverter stops the flow of water through the spout and diverts it through the sprayer. You can replace the diverter when water fails to flow from the sprayer or you experience reduced pressure at the sprayer. Turn off the faucet supply valves beneath the kitchen sink by turning them to the right. Lift the faucet handle to release any water in the lines and from the faucet. Find the small plug cover over the set screw on the back of the faucet handle. Pry the plug from the handle with your fingernails or use a small flat-head screwdriver. Use a hex key to loosen the set screw. Pull the handle off the body of the faucet to expose the bonnet. Twist the bonnet counterclockwise to remove it and expose the mounting nut.

Rotate the mounting nut counterclockwise to remove it. If you cannot remove these by hand, use pump pliers wrapped in a soft towel to avoid damaging the finish. Pull up on the faucet spout while twisting it back and forth. The pulls the spout off the faucet body and exposes the diverter installed in the rear of the faucet body. Grab the small O-ring at the front of the diverter with your fingers or needle-nose pliers. Remove the O-ring from the faucet body. Grab the diverter with the needle-nose pliers and pull the diverter from the faucet. Push the smaller end of the replacement diverter into the opening on the back of the faucet. Make sure to line up any grooves in the faucet with the ones in the new diverter. The diverter should slide into the faucet without any resistance. Insert the O-ring that came with the replacement diverter into the diverter opening. Slide the faucet spout down over the faucet body. Secure it by twisting the mounting nut onto the faucet body clockwise. Replace the bonnet onto the faucet body by twisting it clockwise.

Slip the faucet handled over the bonnet and tighten the set screw. Re-install the set screw cover plug. Reach beneath the sink to turn back on the water by turning the supply valves to the left.

I can tell he didn't even test it because when I turned on the water, I could hear the air getting flushed out. Even with the tub spout running at a low flow, the shower still leaks. All parts are brand new and I highly doubt the diverter is defective. Any feedback or tips would be appreciated. I called the plumber but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Here's a photo before tiling. I'm fearful that we'll have to cut the drywall on the other side to fix this... If the plumber didn't check for leaks he probably didn't let the water flush-out any pipe debris or other particles from the supply lines. Check for obstructions at the valve body. Also check the diverter for proper function with the valve fully opened. The more water pressure the tighter the seal. 1: It's called brand-new-broken. Get on the horn with the manufacturer of the valve. 2: If it was the plumber's fault, they melted a seal or something while soldering. After being advised by both of these parties, you'll know better about who gets to pay to fix it.
