Many Southwestern Native American cultures have some variety of the Kokopelli deity, and Hopi natives often depict this deity in Kachina dolls. The Kokopelli spirit is thought to have control over fertilityboth human and agricultural. Although the modern icon has been emasculated and commercialized, for the most part, throughout its history it has included a phallus as a symbol of its powerful fertility. To a lesser extent, the Kokopelli has sometimes been associated with trickery and music. Although the exact depiction of the Kokopelli differs from group to group, the common belief is that this deity was transferred down from the Anaszai Indians. The power of the Kokopelli is thought to be immense by believers; so much so that shy young women would avoid the symbol for the implications of ensuing childbirth. Many Pueblos depicted the Kokopelli as visiting villages and depositing newborns. In this way, the Kokopelli very much resembles our Western idea of the Stork! Kokopelli symbols were often found surrounding wedding ceremonies, as well-wishers blessed the new couple and prayed for fertility.

More explicit Kokopelli depictions involved a removable, exaggerated phallus that implied enormous virility; both in human reproduction and agricultural abundance. Many cultures would call to this deity to bring successful corn and grain harvests, as well as livestock reproduction. In fact, the Kokopelli is believed to chase away winter and bring in spring. The humpbacked flute player that is commonly recognized as a symbol of Southwestern cultures comes from the less widespread characteristic of the Kokopellis as a musician. Some native groups believed that the deity wandered between villages with songs on his back, spreading seeds along with music. Modern uses of the Kokopelli vary, but most often stand as an icon that represents Southwestern Indian culture. The symbol appears on everything from t-shirts to keychains; and there is even a Kokopelli trail that winds through Colorado and Utah. Course in good condition, friendly staff, pace of play after 4 to 5 holes sucked for this day. Played 11 holes in 3 1/2 hours.....would have taken 6 to 7 hours to finish!! Value for the Money: I found a great deal on Golf Now for this course. Tee time 6:30 am . We teed out on time and finished in less than 3.5 hours. The greens were in great shape and the staff was very friendly at check in. Will play this course again I really like this course, but this time of year, it's not in very good shape. The fairways were pretty barren, without grass in many locations. However, the greens were excellent! The best greens I've played on this summer! I've played this course several times and always enjoy it. It's challenging but fair. There were some rough areas around the course, and bumpy slow greens I don't remember. Still I would recommend this course to anyone. Lack of grass and rain today made for a muddy adventure! We were second group off. Finished in 2.5 hours.

Fairways had some bare spots and some wet spots. Greens were in pretty good shape. Overall, a good deal for the money. They were working on the course, so it has been in better conditions. Played TPC Stadium Course last week and these greens were better to play on.

Fairways ok for summer, some bare spots and wet areas. Sub 3 hour round as a single. Pretty nice course, sand traps very difficult. Course is in good shape! Very wet and there was a lot of standing water. Greens were in good shape. Fair course, sneaky water in a couple locations. Back nine was a little rough. There was more water on this course than I remembered from the first time I played last year, and some of it was hidden from the tee box. Also, make sure you try and position your tee shots avoiding water and taking into account fairway slopes. I drove up to just about each hole to find the sprinklers getting shut off by the grounds crew. On 2 holes they turned back on while we were on the fairway. One par 3 we played while they were mowing right next to it. I've had better experiences here but was very disappointed this round.Unfortunately, conditions were just average. Golf now rate was a very good value Back 9 and breakfast was great. Course was in good shape, little dry around the edges.

Pin locations were less than optimum. More set for a tournament for low handicap golfers than for daily hacker play.. There was not a beverage cart that day and it was warm out...But the hot deal price made all worth it. Will play here again. This course was very challenging. For the men it was great. Us women got alittle tired, but we made it. Before you take on big courses this track helps you level set on challenge. 6 holes are really tough and greens are every bit fun to read and putt We were 3 some and got stuck behind 4 some who were playing in jeans and t shirt -and took forever. I recommend dress code enforeent and pace of play. Course and staff outstanding. Carts need upgrade, Cleaning but Course Works.
