Here's another scoreboard to watch. State report cards now list how many kids in each graduating class score strongly on college exams like the ACT and SAT's and how many earn honors diplomas.
The winner in Northeast Ohio? Solon topped the list in both the SAT and ACT tallies. Hudson was close behind. Barely edged out by Solon in ACT scores, it placed fourth in the region on the SAT. Here are the top districts in Northeast Ohio and statewide on the ACT and SAT for the class of 2014, based on the percentage of graduates scoring well enough that they won't need any remedial classes in college to catch up. Remediation-free scores on the ACT are: 18 and above for English, 22 and above for math and 21 for reading. For the SAT, scores at or above these are considered remediation-free by the Ohio Board of Regents: Critical reading 450, writing 430, math 520, reading 450. In Northeast Ohio, 16 districts had 50% or more of their graduates score as remediation-free on the ACT: For the SAT, 13 districts had more than 20 percent of graduates score as remediation-free on the SAT. For the ACT, there were 13 districts with less than 10 percent of graduates meeting the remediation-free standard.
