January 12, 2013   Subscribe We have a shower where both the faucets drip. We have replaced internal washers, and replaced stems. Replacing either one helps, but not perfectly (usually there's still a slow drip after fixing). The drip gets worse over a period of weeks until it's nearly a trickle, at which point we take the faucets apart and do it all over again. It's gotten a little bit boring.Findfurnish Warehouse Sale Product Dimensions3.8 x 3.8 x 0.6 cmSale On Levolor Blinds #6,686 in Tools & Home Improvement (See top 100)Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath Error Codes Date First AvailableMarch 28 2011How Can We Help You? Despite Kohler's reputation for quality, even the best faucets are subject to normal wear and tear over time. Fortunately, there are a few common faucet repairs that the average person can tackle themselves. Making these simple repairs yourself shouldn't take more than an hour or two of your time and can save you hundreds of dollars compared to the cost of hiring a plumber to do the job for you. Purchase a Kohler faucet repair kit from a store that stocks plumbing supplies. The kit usually costs around $5. Cover the drain with a rag to ensure you do not lose any small parts if you happen to drop them. Turn off the water at the main water supply in your home. Turn on the faucet you are repairing to test to ensure the water is off and let the water drain from the water line. Remove the Kohler faucet handles. First, pop off the plastic end caps on each of the faucet handles by wedging a flat-head screwdriver under the cap until it comes off. Remove the screw in the center of each of the handles using a Phillips screwdriver.
Once the screw has been removed from each of the handles, twist off the entire handle. Set the parts atop a rag on a flat surface in the order you remove them, which will make reassembly easier. Remove the packing nut by using a wrench to unscrew the nut. Take out the entire valve stem assembly by gently pulling it out. Inspect the valve for visible signs of damage, such as tears, cracks or chips. Unscrew the screw located on the bottom of the valve stem assembly. Check the screw and washer, as well as the O-rings and springs located on the inside of the valve stem assembly for visible signs of damage. Replace any parts that appear worn or damaged by locating a matching part from your Kohler faucet repair kit. Soak the entire valve assembly in a solution of lime remover according to the bottle instructions to remove any calcium deposits. Reassemble all necessary parts into the valve stem and reattach the screw and washer to the stem assembly. Set the stem assembly in place and secure it with the packing nut.
