Replace Headlight Bulb 2001 Toyota Celica

The installation of performance headlight bulbs is easy. No special wiring or ballast is needed. Just replace the regular (OEM/standard/composite) light bulbs with your new (aftermarket/performance/halogen) set. The trickiest part of replacing halogen bulbs from composite headlights is to prevent the glass portion of the bulb from coming into contact with your skin or dirt build-up that occurs in your engine bay.Headlight bulbs get very hot when they are on and any oil or dirt that gets into contact with the glass will cause the bulb to burn out prematurely -- ie; DO NOT touch the glass with your fingers or the bulb will develop a hot spot from the oil on your hand and fail prematurely. If you do touch the bulb surface, cleanse it with alcohol on a clean cloth before installing it. It is often wise to remove and reinstall the bulb into the headlight assembly, before reconnecting the wiring harness. This diagram lists the headlight bulb sizes and locations in the 7th gen Toyota Celica. Part numbers and Toyota Service Center prices are also listed if you should need to re-order those parts for any reason.

So bear with me, heres my instructions, Ive done this a bunch (for celica friends). Assuming you dont have tiny hands, its going to mean removing the headlights, its not necessary, but far easier in my opinion, to remove a few bolts then mash my hands to pieces fitting them where they dont fit, then attempt to do a ginger lightbulb change (DO THIS WITH PLENTY OF LIGHT OUTSIDE! If it gets dark, its really hard to see what goes where)

So, I suggest therefore, that you remove the bumper, its just a 10mm socket on along the top, then maybe 1 on the fender. After the bumper is off, take off the 3 bolts holding on each headlight, youll have to pull the engine plastics off first (just pull really hard)

Heeler Puppies For Sale In Wisconsin Bolt 2 is on the inner edge (toward the engine) and it also easy to find
Puppies For Sale In Lexington Ne Bolt 3 is under the headlights main body (perpendicular) on the edge of the fender, this one is trickier, you wont see it until the bumper is off. Its right above your side markers Remove those, unplug the lights, or just twist the bulb sockets completely out if thats easier.

(4 connections each light: Low, High, Parking, Turn) Now that the light is out, pull the rubber boot off, take the housing out, and switch bulbs, wear gloves because oil from your fingers will heat up and pop the new bulbs, so dont touch them with bare hands. Put the housing and new bulb in, make sure you put it in right and snug, put the boot on with the word "top" obviously on top, and push it down tight to prevent leaks. Hook everything back up, put the headlight back in and put the top bolt in first, then the inner one near the engine, then the fender one. Turn the lights on to test, check it all then put your bumper back on. I realize its a bit of work, but its the best way in my opinion, to do this right, and make sure the bulbs are in correctly and the boots are on tight. You can try it without taking them out, but its really harder that way I think. While your at it, switch both lights, because you can start with two new headlights (sold as pairs anyway) and this way one isnt brighter.

You may want to do the fogs too while the bumper is off, its alot easier. Thus, I never have to speed! I do it for recreation. post #3 of 10 (permalink) post #4 of 10 (permalink) 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX - Stage 1 post #5 of 10 (permalink)Glad to help, I realize ttaking the bumper off can be tedious to some. I guess I just think of it as no big deal? However, if you can get your hands in their more power to you, thats faster anyway. Unfortunately, I ALWAYS end up taking my bumper off when working on my front end, because my hands are too big to squeeze in anywhere lol. Plus, I dont mind doing extra steps. As to the lightbulbs, its ok to go oem, but really, think about when you buy 40 bucks in gas every other week, is it REALLY too much to spend on something you wont replace for years, and makes things easier for you?
