Learning Center / Indoor Air Quality / Air Purifiers / The Best Pets for Allergy SufferersThe Best Pets for Allergy SufferersInformation on Rainbow Rainmate The Rainbow Rainmate is a combination humidifier, air freshener and deodorizer that is manufactured and sold by the Rexair Company. It is a completely self-contained unit that does not require the use of a Rainbow vacuum cleaner to operate the device. The Rexair Company was founded in 1936. It is headquartered in Troy, Michigan. The company manufactures a large line of vacuum cleaners with a worldwide distribution. In recent years, the Rexair Company also has been manufacturing and selling a popular line of air fresheners known as the Rainbow Rainmate, which uses water and a motor to disperse scents through the air. The Rainbow Rainmate consists of a small glass water reservoir and a motor that uses centrifugal force to create a fine mist water vapor that disperses both humidity and whatever kind of scent you wish to use throughout the air.
It plugs into a regular 110 volt outlet. The cord has an on/off switch built in so you don't have to plug and unplug the unit as often, which can cause undue stress on the cord. One of the best features about the Rainbow Rainmate is the variety of scents you can use with the unit. There are several oil based scents that are available from the company and include: Mulberry, Violet, Apple Blossom, Lemon, Vanilla, Pine, Orange, Gardenia, Eucalyptus, Rose and Spice. You are not limited to this range of scents though. The Rainbow Rainmate uses plain water to disperse its scent, you can use just about any of your favorite scents in the reservoir without problems. Have a favorite perfume? Just add a couple drops to the water reservoir, replace the top and turn on the motor. In just a few minutes the water will begin bubbling and swirling around as it sends your favorite scent out in a fine, invisible mist. The Rainbow Rainmate can be used in a spa-type setting, using relaxing scents such as lavender and vanilla to calm the senses.
It also can be used with invigorating scents such as lemon and orange to stimulate the mind and body. For someone with sinus problems, a shot of the eucalyptus scent may be nice. Because the Rainbow Rainmate also provides extra humidity to the area in which it is used, it is recommended for people who suffer from allergies or sinusitis. It is not, however, an air purifier, and should not be used with the expectation that it will clean the air. Unit is expensive compared to other types of air fresheners. There have been problems reported with the output tube becoming clogged with gunk, especially if you are using a lot of oil-based fragrance oils.  This is eliminated by frequent cleaning of the intake nozzle. Now, an air purifier manufacturer and an environmental consulting firm have released their list of the top allergen-friendly pets.
Making the cut this week for the Allergen All-Star Pet Awards was: The effort was sponsored by Kaz Inc. of Southborough, Mass., which makes the Doctor’s Choice True HEPA Air Purifier under the Honeywell trademark. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America found that 15 to 30 percent of Americans are allergic to cats or dogs, said Ted Myatt, a senior scientist at Environmental Health and Engineering in Needham, Mass., which participated in the report. “It’s important to note that no breed of dogs and cats has been proven to be truly hypoallergenic,” Myatt said, “but studies suggest that some may be more allergen-friendly than others.” The breeds singled out as Allergen All Stars tend to be smaller, are known to shed less or not shed, and possess shorter coats or fur that produces less dander. Labrador retrievers, a large breed, made the allergen-friendly list because they love to swim and their frequent dips limit allergen concentrations in their hair.
