While some have already past, there is still plenty of opportunity for checking out RVs as well as RV parts and accessories in New York State including: 9th Annual Binghamton Camper & RV ShowMarch 20-22, 2015Vestal, NY (at the Binghamton University Events Center)
23rd Annual Champlain Valley RV & Boat ShowMarch 21-22, 2015Plattsburgh, NY New York State RV ShowSeptember 25-27, 2015Syracuse, NY (at the New York State Fairgrounds) If you’re a first time RV buyer or new to the RV industry, you may be trying to determine the best type of RV for your needs. And there may be terminology and industry jargon that you may not yet be familiar with. We’re here to help you with the basics so that you can go to an RV Show, or just talk with someone about RVs, and be prepared. It may seem like there is an endless amount of RV types and there are quite a few, but the first step is to figure out the general type of RV that would best suite your needs. There are 4 basic types of RVs: Towable RVs that attach to your car or truck (assuming you have a tow package or a pickup truck); Motorized RVs which are drivable; Specialty RVs for specific types of hauling, events or special needs; and Park Model RVs which are larger model RVs that park and look like a home.
For camping purposes, the most common RVs used are Towable and motorized. Among Towable and Motorized RVs there are different types available. The type you select will depend on your needs such as, how many people will be traveling, the types of amenities you’re looking for, the type of car or truck you have, activity interests, and more. The website Go Rving is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn more about different types of RVs and even has a RV selector tool to help you find the best RV for you. From travel trailer, to camper, to motorhome, many RV types and terms sound similar and it can take a little while to distinguish among them. Fifth-Wheel vs. a Conventional Travel Trailer:Fifth wheel trailers are a little larger than conventional towable travel trailers which and are designed to be towed by a pickup truck equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch. Expandable vs. a Folding Camping Trailer: An expandable travel trailer is a smaller RV than the conventional, but has fold out areas to make more room for sleeping while the folding camping trailer (also known as a pop up camper) is closer to a tent in that it can fold away almost completely.
Motorhome:The Motorhome is designed to be driven on its own. There are multiple sizes depending on your needs and desires. These RVs can be as minimalistic or as extravagant as you can dream, some even having king sized beds, washers and dryers, hot tubs, and more. Buying an RV can be a big investment, however, when considering one, there are many options. As described above there are many different types of RVs at all different price points. Check out what there is to offer, it may surprise you! In addition, if you're not able to spend the money on an RV, or just want to try it out first, you can always look into renting or leasing an RV. It will allow you to try it out without making the full investment. Also, if you're still not sure what type of RV would be best for you or you're not able to attend a RV show, plan a trip to a campground, stay at a cabin or other type of rental and scope out the RVs there. You can talk with the owners about the good, bad, and ugly of owning a particular type of RV to find out what would work for you.
