The auctioneers say the long-closed furniture store was packed full of items. Dominic Kavanagh, from auctioneers Leonard Joel, said those peering through the shop window had been able to see just a third of the densely packed store."It generated a lot of interest and momentum gathered while it remained shut," Mr Kavanagh told 774 ABC Melbourne's Rafael Epstein.He said staff at the auction house were particularly excited by "a couple of mystery pieces", including a Beco pendant light that may have come from a house designed by architect Robin Boyd. One chandelier, which features dozens of amber glass cylinders, could go for more than $1,000, while a set of six Harry Bertoia chairs are expected to fetch up to $1,500.
