Ramer, a right-hander pitcher for Purdue from 2010-13, is the 10th member of the Boilermakers' 2012 Big Ten championship team to sign with a Major League Baseball organization. A program-record seven Purdue players were selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Blake Mascarello (2009-12) also signed as a free agent after the 2012 season. Sean McHugh (2011-14) was drafted earlier this month and now Ramer has signed after compiling a 10-1 record in independent ball. Ramer said he was set to travel to Arizona for a physical and was hopeful of being assigned to the Augusta GreenJackets of the Class A South Atlantic League.

San Francisco also has short-season affiliates in Oregon and Arizona. Ramer recorded his first professional victory in just his second start, and Evansville won 13 of the 14 career games in which he pitched. His 10-1 record was tied for the highest winning percentage (.909) of any pitcher in the Otters' 20-year history. The Sunnyvale, Calif., native was a Frontier League best 7-0 this season with a 1.90 ERA, which ranked seventh in the league. He is the 61st Otter to be signed by affiliated baseball.
