Ramer, a right-hander pitcher for Purdue from 2010-13, is the 10th member of the Boilermakers' 2012 Big Ten championship team to sign with a Major League Baseball organization. A program-record seven Purdue players were selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Blake Mascarello (2009-12) also signed as a free agent after the 2012 season. Sean McHugh (2011-14) was drafted earlier this month and now Ramer has signed after compiling a 10-1 record in independent ball. Ramer said he was set to travel to Arizona for a physical and was hopeful of being assigned to the Augusta GreenJackets of the Class A South Atlantic League.

San Francisco also has short-season affiliates in Oregon and Arizona. Ramer recorded his first professional victory in just his second start, and Evansville won 13 of the 14 career games in which he pitched. His 10-1 record was tied for the highest winning percentage (.909) of any pitcher in the Otters' 20-year history. The Sunnyvale, Calif., native was a Frontier League best 7-0 this season with a 1.90 ERA, which ranked seventh in the league. He is the 61st Otter to be signed by affiliated baseball. "I just want to thank the Evansville Otters for the opportunity they gave me," Ramer said. "I want to thank (Otters manager) Andy (McCauley) for giving me a shot when no one else did last year. I want to also thank (pitching coach) Max Peterson for working with me and helping me to continue to develop." "We have been getting a lot of calls about Robert lately," McCauley said. "I'm glad he is getting the opportunity to pitch with the San Francisco Giants. He has earned everything he is receiving now with hard work and learning the professional aspects of pitching.

We wish him all the best with the Giants organization." Ramer finished his college career with a 16-6 record, 202 2/3 innings pitched and a 3.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio. After issuing only 33 walks in his 202 2/3 career innings, including just two in 50 1/3 innings during the 2012 Big Ten championship season, his 1.465 fewest walks per nine ratio is the best in program history. After being a big reason why Purdue won 17 consecutive midweek games from 2011-12, he joined the weekend rotation as a senior and made four of his eight Big Ten starts on Fridays.

"This moment is surreal," said Matranga, who had his name called by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th round (1,085 overall). "I've been dreaming of this my whole life and for it to come true is amazing. I can't wait to continue the hard work and the opportunity to keep playing. Thank you to the coaching staff for supporting me and pushing me each day." Miroglio, a junior, and Matranga, a senior, are the 44th and 45th USF draft picks during head coach Nino Giarratano's 18-year tenure. Matranga (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic HS) stepped into the everyday catcher role after Miroglio's injury and went on to establish himself as one of the conference's top catchers, ranking third in the WCC in runners caught stealing (22) while throwing out 49 percent of basestealers.

At the plate, Matranga drove in a career-high 20 runs and added six doubles. He was responsible for both of USF's walk-off wins on the year with a single in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Hawai'i (Feb. 27) and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth vs. BYU (May 12). Miroglio (Oakland, Calif. / UCLA) was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 16th round (480th overall). Miroglio missed all but the first eight games of the 2016 season with a hand injury sustained during the second weekend of the season. and was a preseason addition to the Johnny Bench Award watch list. A 40th round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics out of high school in 2013, Miroglio became an offensive leader for the Dons by hitting .340 with three home runs and a team-best 38 RBI in 2015, his first season on the Hilltop after transferring from UCLA.
