Shetland Sheepdog Puppies For Sale In Bc

Thinking about adopting a Sheltie puppy? Like most people, you’ve probably heard time and again that if you have kids, you should adopt a Sheltie puppy (or, gasp! find a Sheltie puppy for sale). The rationale is that an adult shelter dog is an unknown quantity, so buying or adopting a Sheltie puppy is safer. Puppies eventually can be trained out of this behavior, of course, and there are exceptions to every rule, but generally speaking, an adult Sheltie (or any adult dog) is much less likely to shred your drapes like coleslaw or function as a “helpful” canine document shredder. So a three-month-old Sheltie puppy needs to go outside every three hours, a four-month-old needs to go every four hours, and so on. But if you’re planning on leaving your dog alone during your workday, you’ll definitely want to adopt a full-grown dog, ideally from a Sheltie rescue that can help you find the right dog for your lifestyle. Let’s bust these myths about adopting a Sheltie Time to get real: when we ask people what reservations they have about Sheltie adoption, we hear the same things over and over again.

If you’re operating under any of these mistaken beliefs, you just might be missing out on meeting the best friend you’ll ever have. You CAN find purebred Shelties for adoption in an animal shelter or rescue group. Shelties and Sheltie puppies for adoption are NOT in any way inferior to or different from those for sale. Here’s the truth: you absolutely can find a Sheltie, even a Sheltie puppy, for adoption in an animal shelter or rescue group. Think about it: let’s say you buy a Sheltie puppy for sale by a breeder. But what would happen to your wonderful Sheltie if, tragically, something happened to you? The lucky person who adopts your Sheltie would be getting a great dog! Doesn't have much genetic problems. I am hoping that a Sheltie will get along with our 10 1/2 yr. old English Bulldog. Just the two of us now and on weekends our grandchildren come to visit. Do you think this breed would be good for us?

I believe they are the best dog breed on earth. It took me five years to find her near where I live. I have always wanted to breed them, but no one sells pups with breeding rights. I've even sent out emails asking for a pup and a mentor since I have the time and my kids are grown to put into my love of the breed. How do you get into breeding? 2 CommentsAnonymousIf you are unable to find a breeder in your area willing to help you, then that breeder is not a good breeder. Breeders that love the breed and breed for the betterment and love of the breed will normally be happy to help someone become a good breeder like themselves. I would go onto the AKC website and find a breeder within driving distance and/or someone whom goes to shows or does other trail activities in your area.

Ask them about starting up a breeding program with one of their dogs and to be mentored by them as to what they do with the breed. Some breeders are show only breeders while others do training like agility and obedience with their dogs. Figure out what you want to do with the breed first before contacting any breeders. AnonymousMy 17-month-old Shetland Sheepdog has lost most of her coat after weaning puppies--should I be worried? I bought my Sheltie from a breeder when she was 16 months old; she had just had a litter of puppies and had just finished weaning them when we got her. She has lost a lot more of her coat since then. Her brother has a beautiful full coat and so do her parents.

We are hoping that this is just temporary, and her coat will start coming in. Please assure me or tell me to be worried. 3 CommentsAnonymousIt is quite common for females to lose a lot of hair from having puppies. To keep as much coat as possible on my Collies and Shelties, I worm the mom every month with pyrantel and/or Iverhart Max. I supplement her diet with a scrambled egg every day, wheat germ oil, flax seed oil, cod liver oil, a multi vitamin, ester c vitamin and I use nuvet supplement. I also feed the most nutritious dog food that I can afford- I used the Dog Food Advisor website to pick a good food. Her hair will grow back. Depending on her diet it could take about a year, but it will grow back.AnonymousHi, I am a rectifiable Sheltie breeder. They all lose their coats after a litter, but it does come back looking even better. I am a little concerned though that she was breed at a young age. I do not breed any of my bitches until they are 2 years old. I hope this helps.AnonymousMy Sheltie lost her coat after puppies.
