Wheatens In Need RescueIt's been a while since we posted anything about Murray, the 11-year-old who was taken in June to an Illinois vet clinic to be euthanized due to a GI upset. Robin Vaccaro rescued him, flying out to Illinois and driving him back to New Hampshire where she and Nanci Salter have been fostering him. Nanci and Robin found a suitable home for Murray a while ago, but his new mom was not able to take him right away. Today Nanci and Robin took Murray to New York and handed him over to his new mom Mary Ellen. Wheatens in Need | Wheaten Terrier Rescue | Friends of WIN 2015Wheatens In Need Rescue added 2 new photos.We are in need of a foster/foster-to-adopt home for a two-year-old male that is being returned. Baxter was placed in January 2015 when he was just a puppy. His original owner had to return to Denmark to care for his sick mother, shortly after purchasing Baxter from a pet shop. He was placed with a family in Maryland and, unfortunately, he has been displaying some behavioral problems that they are unable to handle. We had him evaluated by a trainer who said that she feels he w...ould be OK with an owner who can be firm (but kind) and diligent about training, We were told that Baxter is very loving in the home, but does react when anyone comes to the door or walks by the house and yard.

It's particularly problematic because during the day while the family is at work/school, he is in the care of the 85-year-old grandmother who is physically unable to handle him. He did get into a fight at daycare but we don't know what the circumstances were. He is wary of strangers and while being walked on leash one day, he broke free and chased after a passerby. He circled and barked at the man and gave him a tremendous fright but he did NOT make any effort to bite or attack. Obviously, Baxter is what we call a "project dog" but we feel that he is salvageable if we can find the right environment for him. We need someone experienced -- preferably without other pets or very young children -- to foster him. We realize that most of our volunteers will not be able to take him on, but we are hoping that there is someone somewhere between New Jersey and Maryland who might be wiling to try. If anyone in South Jersey is willing to take Baxter, WonderDogs in West Berlin has generously offered to help with the cost of training him.
