From the moment your parents reluctantly drive away after moving you into your overwhelmingly small dorm room to that sticky summer day when they are applauding as you eagerly grab your diploma, the campus is yours to explore and engage.
So what to do with [...] Dorm-Life: The Necessities When you’ve never lived in a dorm before, trying to decide what to bring with you and what to leave at home can be a difficult task. Contacting your future roommate is a great first step. Discuss with them who should bring what and maybe even brainstorm some ideas for setting up the dorm room. Stay On Top: Freshman Year Advice Stay On Top: Freshman Year Advice From a distance, college looks like an endless cycle of partying, hanging out with friends, and extra-curricular activities. But believe it or not, there’s a good deal of academics mixed in there somewhere. Most upperclassmen think that the biggest mistake they’ve made through-out their individual college careers was not taking freshman year seriously. 9:54 a.m., May 7, 2013--The University of Delaware Alumni Association (UDAA), in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, hosted a T-shirt swap and the first Blue Hen Games on the North Green on Wednesday, May 1.
The UDAA gave members of the Class of 2015 T-shirts as part of a sophomore class T-shirt swap to help them show off their class pride. Summer SAT, ACT prep In return, sophomores gave over 130 of their own used T-shirts, which will be donated to Goodwill Industries. The swap focused mainly on the T-shirts but also gave the sophomores a chance to find their names on the Class of 2015 banner, enjoy snacks and music by DJ Amaze, decorate chalk boards through the Student Alumni Ambassadors’ make and take event and participate in the Blue Hen Games. New this year, members of the Class of 2015 could register to take part in the Blue Hen Games, which consisted of two rounds of competition. Round one was a four-leg relay race and round two was a tug-o-war, a revived tradition from UD that had ended in the 1960s. Fourteen teams participated in the games. Each team consisted of four members of the Class of 2015 and each person who participated received a Class of 2015 blue and gold reversible pinnie sponsored by the UD Alumni Association and Lang Development Group.
Each member of the overall winning team, the SITH Lords, received a UD pop-up cooler and a $50 Main Street gift card and each member of the second place team, the DARE Team, received a $50 gift card to a restaurant on Main Street. Darelle Lake Riabov, UDAA president and a member of the Class of 1973, attended the event and said she was excited to see the students getting involved and having fun together. When asked about the importance of an event like this, she said, “There is an expression in the business world that it is always easier to keep existing customers than to find new ones. In a way, the UDAA is building on that concept by getting each class involved with the Alumni Association while they are students. That way, when they graduate, there already will be a strong relationship established. What better way to demonstrate our themeline, ‘Students Today. The UDAA also sponsors the freshmen class banner signing, junior class halfway there event and senior class cap decorating party and pinning ceremonies.
