This is a must stop if you are in northern Michigan this is much better than traverse city I M O you must visit and judge for your self We visited Petoskey soon after arriving in Michigan and loved every minute of time we spent here. The gaslight district has so many awesome shops at all price points and a nice variety. We did quite a bit of shopping for tee shirts and also Michigan products. The streets were very clean with beautiful flowers everywhere. Clearly there's a lot... Many shops to see what the area has to offer. Enjoyed the variety of Petoskey Stones that the shops had for sale and for display. Clothing shops had a large selection. Many places to grab a bite. Even a couple breweries to check out. Convenient tunnel to the waterfront so you can visit both without moving the car. I thought there'd be more interesting shops downtown. Maybe we didn't see all they had to offer. The only shop I went into, was a book store. You don't see a lot of those anymore. Anyway, I wouldn't go shopping here again.

It was okay, but nothing to write home about. Enjoyed the specialty shops and the atmosphere of days long ago. We spent an afternoon shopping and that was plenty of time. The only disappointment was that the shops close early during the week so it wasn't something we could "fit in" when it was convenient for us but that is ok, we didn't want to do weekend crowds. the lil shops , the decorations, the vibes of the place, the shopping , the eateries .. This is a must see if in Petoskey. Full of small shops of every sort, boutiques, restaurants, lots to see. I was surprised to see how early they seemed to close despite all the good restaurants, but it was a Sunday night when we were there...that could be the reason. I enjoyed wandering through a variety of shops for a couple of days. The shops are both high and low-end. I purchased several items. I love my new Michigan cap, Petoskey stone wine stopper, and leather covered switch plate with leaf images (made by Mike Barnes). A store owned by Linda Michaels had quality items and nice Petoskey stones. We love coming to the downtown in Petoskey! The streets are safe and easy to navigate, the area is family friendly, and there are many unique and charming shops to browse. There are also several tasty places to grab a snack or a bite to eat.
