We asked a few IC contributors to tell us a bit about themselves and this is what we got in return… IC MEET SERIES – Q+A with… Allison Doran – Boston, MA. Timothy William Brierley, but I prefer Tim or Timmy, Timothy sounds so pretentious. What do you do for a crust? I am an aspiring illustrator, filmmaker, comic artist, stand up comedian, actor, writer, and musician. I’m all over the place. My day job is a flight attendant. Can you tell us about your creative background? My Mom is an artist, so I’ve always been surrounded by creativity. I feel lucky to have grown up in a household where disorganized creativity was the norm. What inspires you to shoot film? There is something so awesome about film, anyone can take a snapshot with their phone now, but pictures on film seem like a real moment in time, it’s like a memory you can hold in your hand. How did you come to connect with Indisposable Concept? I moved to New Zealand after I graduated college, the third day I was there my digital camera broke, so I bought a disposable, and was hooked.
Ever since then I’ve been shooting disposables. A friend of mine mentioned IC one day after seeing my photos, and it was awesome to see that there was a whole community that appreciated disposable camera magic. Do you remember what was in the first roll of film you shot for IC? It was from a camera I took on a road trip with my brother, we rented a camper van and drove around the South Island of NZ for 3 weeks, one of the best trips of my life. What is your fav photo that you’ve shot for IC? Tell us a bit about it. It is a photo of a yellow Lighthouse on top of a cliff in Kaikoura, NZ. I love the colors, the contrast, the light, everything. It’s actually from that first roll. It seems film photography and disposables are making a comeback, why do you think that is?Time is a flat circle. If someone destroyed all the disposable cameras in the world and you had the very last one, what would you capture? That would be way too much pressure. I would probably just take 27 selfies in a row.
What does 2016 hold for you? I’m working on a short film and a children’s book right now, so hopefully one of those projects turns into something cool. Explain your style/approach when shooting a roll. I love candid photos, I usually end up taking a lot of back photos, I just like catching people off guard, I like to look back on a roll and feel like I’m seeing real moments, not fake smiles. How would you describe your photographic style? So good it makes me sick. Where do you find inspiration? I’m not sure I can pinpoint where it comes from. I spend way too much time in coffee shops, so maybe coffee shops? Is that a bad answer? Fave place to shoot? I feel like this is another way of asking where my favorite place on earth is, so my answer is Maine, specifically in the summer time.(For lack of a better name) 5 people you’d like to photograph? 1. The cast of “Freaks and Geeks” 5 books you wish you’d written? 2. The entire Harry Potter series (I’d be so rich)
