The announcement rounded-off what was an exciting day at the four-day event, which culminated in the seven Best In Breeds battling it out for the top spot. Owner Marie Burns was overwhelmed with emotion as her perfectly preened pooch crowned the winner. She wiped away tears from her eyes as she cuddled Devon next to the winner's podium, as her pet appeared more than happy to be the centre of attention. Ms Burns, from County Durham, said she knew Devon was special from an early age. She told presenter Clare Balding she had said to a friend when the puppy was just eight or nine weeks old: 'I think I've got the nicest Westie I've ever bred here.'On the victory itself, Ms Burns added: 'To win Best In Show at Crufts is absolutely amazing.'The Westie, who is also known as Geordie Girl, is just under two years old, making it the youngest contender for Best In Show at the NEC in Birmingham this year.Hazel the Whippet was the runner-up, alongside her owner Charlie Donaldson from Middlebie, Dumfriesshire.

The 19-year-old, the youngest handler in Best In Show, said: 'Words can't describe how much this means.
