Tilt blinds provide a light source and act as privacy curtains. Tilt blinds, such as Venetian blinds or wooden slat blinds, use a simple pulley gear mechanism to turn the slant of the blinds and adjust the amount of light that enters a room. When your tilt blinds hang up on a regular basis as you attempt to change the slat angle or blind height, you don't have to replace the entire blind. You can save money and keep your favorite Venetian blinds simply by replacing the tilt gear of the blind. Take the blinds off the mounting brackets. The tilting mechanism is located at the top of the blinds in the head-rail. Slide off the metal end cap or end stiffener from the ends of the head-rail. Move the metal tilt rod over one inch away from the pulley of the tilt mechanism. Pull out the tilt mechanism from the head-rail. Slide the rod of the new tilt mechanism into the rod hole where the old metal tilt rod was installed and snap it into place. Slide the metal end caps or end stiffener back onto the head-rail and remount the blinds onto the window.

Unhook the wand from the tilt mechanism. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the metal end cap or end stiffener located near the wand tilt end of the head-rail. Remove the C-clamp or ladder clamps from the tilt rod; the clamps hold the tilt mechanism in place in the head-rail and prevent it from sliding around during use. Move the tilt rod away from the wand tilt mechanism. Some models require that you remove the tilt rode completely in order to replace the tilt mechanism. Gently pull apart the sides of the head-rail with your fingers and slide out the wand tilt mechanism. If the sides don't move easily, grasp the wand tilt with needle-nose pliers and twist it to the right to pull it out of the head-rail. Insert the new wand tilt, lip-side first, into the tilt rod mechanism slot and snap it into place. Move the tab of the rod tilt mechanism so that it faces you and reinstall the C-clamp or ladder clamps. Slide the metal end caps or end stiffener back into the head-rail. Place the blinds back onto the mounting brackets of the window.

Slip the end loop of the wand onto the tilt mechanism hook.
