Arizona Greyhound Rescue is a non-profit, all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) corporation committed to the belief that every sighthound deserves a loving, permanent and responsible home. With the help of our many volunteers AGR has placed over 1,400 hounds in forever homes since we began in 1992. In 2015, 38 hounds were adopted! Most were placed as pets and several joined our Heartfelt Hounds Program! We do not place our hounds on a first come first served basis; but rather, we make an educated and conscientious attempt in matching the right dog with the right home. Thanks to you, we have raised $2,720 so far! Please click on the banner above and help us with our challenge! Simon is a handsome blue brindle boy who is ready to find his new home. He is the last of the 19 hounds we welcomed in to the AGR fold when live racing ended in Arizona.

He isn't able to live in a home with cats or small dogs and needs an adopter who has experience with Greyhounds. Thanks to Team Up For Tucson, we were able to pull two greyhound mixes from Pima Animal Control in the last couple of weeks. And BOTH of these cuties have already been adopted. Kermit, now known as Diesel, is a tuxedo, whippet mix who found himself at PACC after being rescued from a hoarding situation. We brought him in to our family mid-July. He has been adopted and is right at home with his new brother Harley, now known as Hero. Note that they are not overly impressed with Cesar. This beautiful, 13-year-old Greyhound mix named Lily was surrendered to Pima Animal Control on August 5th. She has already been adopted and will spend her days with Mr. Fry at Sunrise at River Road and her nights lounging on her new Mom's couch. These are more than cute wine labels; these great tasting Chilean wines help our great hounds find their forever homes. For every wine bottle or wine collection you buy, AGR gets $6 for each bottle!

Our labels also come as notecards! Get them in the AGR Store Print our flyer and tell your friendsChampion sire/dam puppies available One yr old white and fawn male Top Best in Show Breeder of Whippets AKC registered pups -home raised great temperments

Dogs are normally given about a week to settle in before we take their photos since it takes a while for them to calm down and adjust to the new environment.

Once they are settled they become much more photogenic and its easier to accomplish the task! Mobile, AL Greyhounds-Part 1 On Sunday, April 25, 2010 the 12 of the 28 greyhounds coming from Mobile Alabama arrived at NGAP. Mobile Greyhound Park opened in 1973 is probably considered an end-of-the-road track. If the greyhounds do not succeed there they had better be adopted. Look for these Alabama dogs: On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, NGAP received 14 greyhounds from Hollydogs in Florida. NGAP has had a long relationship with Sergio and Silvana Cortello, founders of Hollydogs. We have been getting dogs from them for probably 17 or 18 years! Their kennel is in the shadow of what used to be the Hollywood Track in Hollywood, Florida. This track is now called Mardi Gras and has slot machines and card playing, so greyhounds are no longer the main focus of interest. Although the Mardi Gras track has a so-called 'adoption program' they show very little interest in actually adopting their greyhounds.

Thankfully, Hollydogs is there to pick up the slack!. He was immediately put on IV fluids to get him rehydrated. He and the 15 others will be photographed sometime next week. Look for these dogs on our website soon: Its Me or the Dog Last but not least, we can't leave out the 12 greyhounds arriving from Orlando, Florida on May 4, 2010. Diane and John Galui from JayGee Kennels have been bringing greyhounds to us for well over 15 years, certainly since our first kennel opened at Wingate Street holding only seven greyhounds. This will round our number out to 56! This is the largest quantity of greyhounds NGAP has taken in in such a short period of time.

Every single one of them was BLACK!Because even in 2016, black dogs are still avoided by some groups, still considered the least appealing dogs and still the hardest colored dog to move into an adoption group.

(note: one of American Greyhound’s goals is to always strive to take in more black dogs than what would typically come to us-and we do!) Last December we learned that the adoption kennel’s inventory of available pups was made upof well over 50% black dogs. While we had discussed the possibility of an all-black TGIE class in the past,it had never been something we could put together. With the situation in Mobile being what it was, it seemed like the time was right. So, in April that’s exactly what we did. This past Thursday, those nine black beauties (American Greyhound has nine of the twenty dogs in the program) graduated from the program and are now in their foster homes eagerly awaiting their adoptive home. And, in addition to the nine dogs we bring to TGIE at the beginning of each ten-week session, we also bring additional dogs up on the hauls which go directly into foster care. We brought five additional dogs this past week, and as you probably can guess, they were all black as well.

So, between TGIE graduates, fresh dogs right off the track, and the normal numbers of black dogs we take into our adoption program, we have a large stable of black dogs at the moment. If you have been thinking of adding a new dog to your family, there would be no better time than right now. And, with such a large array of new dogs to choose from, you’re sure to find just the right dog for you and your family. To learn more about our available dogs, contact one of our adoption coordinators at or by contacting them from our web site. Finding Homes for Unwanted Greyhounds American Greyhound, Inc. is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to finding homes for unwanted greyhounds. Our volunteers rescue hounds when they have no where else to turn, provide the necessary veterinary care, teach them what it means to live in a home as a companion animal, and find them good homes where they are able to live out their lives.
