The dog is most likely to lay down, sit near the door until the owner reopens it. So unless you have a set up so that you know 100% your dog is going to run for 45 minutes, ie: electronic racing course (which should be supervised when in use) then you need to walk your dog more. Whippets need an average of an hour to an hour and a half of running exercise a day. So half an hour walk in the morning, half an hour walk in the evening and a 45 minute - 1 hour session at the dog park where your dog is running around playing and socializing would be just fine.

Another tip is to leave the TV on when you are gone (my Wolfhound loves the QUBO cartoon station) to put the sound of human voices in the house and to mask the sounds from outside. If you like racing breeds, try the smaller, less energetic Italian Greyhound. Please note that Italian Greyhounds are sensitive to the cold. Do not get an Italian Greyhound if you live in a cold climate.

They rolled a ball down the hallway for him to chase, and took him on the treadmill in the exercise room. I am a firm believer of a dog needing carbs in their diet as well as a good protein. A diet of pure protein is not balanced for the domesticated dog.
