Officers seized eight of the animals from two addresses connected to the family of the girl who was killed at her grandmother's home in the early hours of New Year's Day.Shortly before the raids, Ellie's convicted drug dealer uncle, Kiel Simpson, 23, who owned the killer pit bull, was interviewed by police after voluntarily attending a police station. He was released without charge.It emerged that Simpson's three stone dog, named Reuben, came from the same litter as those confiscated by officers acting on an anonymous tip-off from a member of the public.Six juvenile dogs were seized from the back of a hairdressers in Parr, St Helens, around four miles from where Ellie was attacked, shortly after 5pm on Wednesday.Around 20 officers arrived at the salon in riot vans and forced their way into the backyard, where they found three dogs caged in makeshift kennels and another three running free in the yard.

A few hours later a team of 25 officers, some carrying riot shields and batons, raided a second property seven miles away, in Widnes, Cheshire, and took away another two adult pit bull terriers.It emerged the owner of the £210,000 detached property in Widnes had links with Ellie's uncle.Dog breeder Stuart Harris, 31, a body builder who runs a gym in Liverpool, admitted he knew Simpson but denied selling or giving him any dogs.'There are loads of rumours flying around, I do know Kiel Simpson, but I didn't give him the dog or sell it him,' he said.'I've bred dogs before, up until a year ago I bred British bull dogs, but that's it.'Neighbours said police climbed over the gate into Harris' property at around 9pm and stayed for around three hours.'They were in the back for quite a while,' a neighbour said.'Stuart wasn't around and hasn't been seen since.We never actually saw the dogs but you could hear them barking.'The hairdressers and beauty salon, named Sugar, in Parr, St Helens, was closed and shuttered.

Helen Watson, 30, who runs the salon, is understood to be close friends with Ellie's family.She was pictured crying on television with her arm around Simpson when relatives laid flowers and paid tribute to the dead girl on Tuesday evening. Ellie's aunt, Kelsey Simpson, 19, also works at Sugar as Miss Watson's assistant.A local shopkeeper said: 'She (Helen) came in here and said she wouldn't be opening the salon until next week.'She was upset. She said it was her assistant's sister's little girl who had been killed by the pit bull.'Police said it was unclear whether the salon and the make-shift kennels were connected.All the dogs seized are being kept in secure kennels across Merseyside. One of them had cropped ears, a feature of dogs bred to fight.Officers are probing whether Simpson's 12-month-old dog, which was put down by police marksmen after the attack, came from the same litter as the dogs confiscated. A Merseyside police spokesman said: 'That is one line of inquiry and will be determined through extensive tests and DNA.'Ellie was killed and her grandmother, Jackie Simpson, 46, seriously injured when she was attacked by the dog in the early hours of New Year's Day.Merseyside police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe called for an amnesty on dangerous dogs.
