The partnership between General and its distributor is itself celebrating a landmark year. It is 20 years since the first supply contract was signed – between the pre-Conti General and the pre-Micheldever 4×4 tyre wholesale specialist Southam Tyres – and the relationship has blossomed with some impressive market share statistics. In 1995, General Tire product sales occupied some four per cent of the applicable market; now that figure is placed at 15 per cent. Micheldever ran a General Tire-themed roadshow in the summer – covering the official signing date of the Southam/General agreement, 28 July – raising money for a Children’s Air Ambulance charity.

In terms of product news, General has released another new size in its Grabber AT range: 255/55R20 110HXL. The size, available now across the UK, will be of interest to Range Rover and Range Rover Sport drivers, with the tyre providing “an upgrade in off-road ability,” according to Dave Dineen, UK 4×4 sales & General Tire brand manager. “The introduction of this hugely important AT size perfectly illustrates why General Tire are the UK 4×4 market leader in all terrain size development,” he adds. Micheldever has also added a range of sizes for the newly released BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2. The new pattern is being phased in over three waves with the first six sizes in stock now, and more due in November 2015 and February 2016.
