Cocker Spaniels, not so much. They like to do things, such as sniff out prey, (they have a great nose) and are naturally good watch dogs. My male cocker will let me know when someone drives up, and the sound of his bark lets me know if he is familiar with my visitor or not. The Cavalier King may bark at a stranger, but he doesn't take his watchdog duties as seriously as the Cocker. AnonymousI agree with 8/6/2014 statement 100%. I had my Cavalier for 3 years before I actually heard her bark and was the most polite, lady like bark I've ever heard. I had too look around to figure out where this really low almost melodic little woo-woo-woo was competing from.
