Summary: Mattress covers are supposed to protect us from bed bugs. In reality, mattress covers save us from throwing out perfectly good bedding, but they don't solve a bed bug infestation on their own. Apparently, every sheet maker in the country has jumped on the bed bug proofing bandwagon, offering mattress and box spring covers. The variety is a bit overwhelming because the choices get into that dark, mystical area of thread count and everyone know that leads to madness. But, you're here for a reason and you must not care about your sanity, so I'll do my best to lead you safely through this morass. So, what's the difference between anti-dust mite covers and bed bug proof encasements other than four extra letters? Nothing that I could unearth said anything to the contrary. It all has to do with tightness of the fabric weave and a good zipper. Comfort, of course, is a big issue because some covers are made with synthetics, while others are totally cotton. If you don't wish to be sweating through the night I would guess that cotton would be the fabric of choice.

Mattress covers come in enough sizes to satisfy the three bears. Momma, papa and baby bear would find the perfect size of each of their beds and box springs. Sizing includes mattress depth for those of us who have gone over to the padded top mattress club. Just to let you know, you can add about four dollars for every additional three inches of mattress depth over the standard nine inch mattress. For the sake of simple comparison let's use queen size covers as our benchmark for pricing and availability.That wasn't so bad, was it? I took you from low to high in five easy steps. You can spend pocket money or go to the bank for a loan for your covers. There is something that really bothers me about all the mattress cover hype. You cover your bed with the guaranteed-not-to-escape mattress and box spring cover, but what about the bed bugs that did not happen to get locked inside the cover? Do people who buy these covers think all their bed bug problems will disappear the moment the mattress cover zipper is pulled closed?

The bitter truth is that mattress and box spring covers only serve to save you the cost of tossing you bedding out on the street. These covers do nothing to stop other bed bugs from getting to you from their hiding place behind that picture hanging above your bed, or from the back of the headboard or from under your bedside table. This product not only is a great price, but works well, and I’d think will last for a long time. You’ll not find it thick, but a soft, strong thin material. This not only makes it easy to install, but unobtrusive when sleeping. There is no plastic sent, or order at all some new covers have. I stood my mattress on end, and dropped the covering down over the top so that the flap at the zipper end drops down.

After laying it back, this made the seams line up beautifully, and it was easy to close the Velcro and zipper. The cover has plenty room for my pillow top with some play left over. Once I made my bed with pad, sheets, I don’t even think about it anymore, and probably won’t need to wash it unless the bed gets wet for some reason. That brings me to it being water proof, a great design feature. All in all, I think it’s a great product and the pricing is good for the protection it provides. Really like the idea of velcro under the zippered part. I read in a review someone recommended using duct tape over the zippered part on a different brand, but it doesn't seem necessary in this case. Plus, you can wash them whereas if you duct taped I would think that would render them ruined. However, short after opening the package I noticed the thin and delicate fabric the bag was made of. Once I slipped my mattress into the bag I began the process of zipping the bag closed. I encountered a resistance problem when I reached midway zipping the bag closed. this point I realized I had to pull the bag forward since it was a tight fit. I managed to pull some excess forward to finish zipping the bag closed. However, once I zipped it closed I closely inspected every side of the bag to make sure it was completely sealed whereupon I notice a 5 inch rip on the seam just below the middle end of the zipper. The only thing I thought I could do was to sew it up quickly and hop the seam holds. The fabric is paperlike and does not seem heavy duty enough and capable of lasting for a long period.
