Kittens For Sale St Albans

NINE five-week-old puppies are orphans after their mother “rotted to death” in a horrific case of backyard overbreeding that rescuers say is plaguing Geelong.Rescuers say the animals were kept in an unused chook shed at the rear of a St Albans Park home before successful negotiations for their surrender this week.‘She’d basically been bred to death’In a tragic chain of events, a staffy named Jewel was allegedly found semiconscious on a concrete floor after being “left for dead”.Despite being rushed to a Werribee vet, she died on the operating table due to complications from severe infection in her reproductive organs, including necrotic mastitis. It’s believed the young dog was forced to birth five litters over a three-year period, in a case animal welfare authorities say is becoming all too common in Geelong backyards.Forever Friends Animal Rescue president Saskia Adams urged residents to look over their fences and report cruelty concerns immediately. She said Geelong had a frightening issue with overbreeding of staffordshire bull terriers, with 80 per cent of dogs dumped at Geelong Animal Welfare Society belonging to that breed, compared to only 20 per cent at the Melbourne’s Lost Dogs Home.“

This is happening in Geelong. A good question to ask is what’s happening over your back fence,” Ms Adams said.“People buy staffies thinking they’re tough dogs but they’re so affectionate and therefore get dumped, which is why they’re clogging up GAWS.media_cameraJewel could not be saved, despite rescuers’ efforts.media_cameraThe shed that Jewel and her puppies lived in.“Jewel was a beautiful, loving dog that, despite being so mistreated, still loved humans.”Ms Adams said her team spent three weeks negotiating the animals’ release, with the owner allegedly adamant he wanted to sell off the young pups at four weeks of age. The legal minimum is eight weeks.“We also discovered they were being kept in a disused chook pen with no bedding, no shelter and were found huddled up on some foam trying to keep warm as mum was being kept separate throughout the night and some of the day,” she said.“We watched him feed her, throw slabs of kangaroos meet on the concrete and because she was so starving and emaciated, she’d scoff it and throw it up again.“

She was rushed into critical care, her limbs were shutting down, as she was in a state of reproductive infection from overbreeding. She’d basically been bred to death.”City of Greater Geelong spokesman Geoff Russell said the property owner at the address was not listed with council as a registered breeder. He said council had no record of any complaints related to this property and was unaware of any breeding activities taking place at the address.Mr Russell said council animal compliance officers would visit the address as soon as possible and make relevant inquiries. An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed the organisation was investigating the case.“We are investigating and we urge anyone with any information to come forward and contact us,” they said. “All reports are in confidence.”Two illegal puppy farms at Anakie and Little River were shut down in 2015 following investigations into their operation by Oscar’s Law and the Geelong Advertiser.Forever Friends Animal Rescue now faces a $6500 medical bill for Jewel and ongoing costs for the surviving puppies.
