We have been serving the old car parts and the antique and classic car community for over 27 years. For all of those years we were in Southern California. In the fall of 2002, we moved to Oregon, where we're now well established and serving our customer's needs. Our sincere thanks go to all of our customers, both loyal old ones who have been at this for a while and our new ones just starting a "Love Affair" with an old car. We offer a wide selection, specializing in 1960's through current automotive items. This 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale is not what one would expect from an Oldsmobile of the era.
Let’s start with that rather spry blue paint instead of some dull earth-tone brown or green. Then there’s the 455 under the hood with (if we’re reading this right) 390 horsepower and 500-lbs.ft. To top it all off, from the photos it looks like it’s been treated to the same level of restoration one would lavish on a 4-4-2 or other A-body. From the seller’s description: Near mint, super rare equipped with high compression 455 L-31, 4-barrel, ’70 OB-code Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission, Strato bucket seats & sports console, a/c, ps, power disc brakes, AM radio, 8-track, clock, convenience group, anti-spin rear axle, astro blue color #25, Protect-o-plate, broadcast card. Condition is near mint driven regularly in good weather only – no rust – very high quality paint, body was stripped completely, most of the chrome and stainless has been restored to new. Underside is very clean, engine compartment is nicely & correctly detailed. Suspension has been upgraded with Eaton springs, KYB gas shocks, sway bars, poly graphite bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, close ratio steering, etc..
Complete a/c has been replaced, new compressor, drier, Classic Air POA valve, auxiliary fan, heavy duty new radiator, etc.  Transmission professionally rebuilt and shifts perfectly, motor runs terrific, new exhaust is stock A pleasure to drive and reliable for long trips. 4-owner car with complete history since new. Very high quality car that has been completely sorted. Every component and light works correctly. New modern under dash stereo with MP3. You will never see another like this and I’m sure I will regret selling. All original drivetrain including E-heads. I never did anything with it other than maintain & drive it. Frankly, if it weren't for the decal on the air cleaner, there's no way you'd know the difference between it, the 350, or the 455.
And its performance and economy were pretty much "right in there among 'em." 6,364 posts, read 10,547,581 times Originally Posted by Gimme3steps Are you sure those were all the same engines? The bore was so wide that it was "siamesed" (similar to another GM 400 CID small block motor) — there was no space for coolant flow between the cylinders.
This sometimes led to overheating problems. Some very early 403s were painted metallic blue like the 455, but most were painted GM Corporate Blue. The Olds 403 was used by Buick and Pontiac in addition to Oldsmobile. The engine was only produced through 1979. Output was 185 hp (138 kW) and 320 lbft (430 Nm). If I remember right, there was a lawsuit over that because people didn't get the same make engine as the body make. Truth be told, they actually were better off with the Chevy engine. It wasn't just Chevy engines....they also put Buick engines in Oldsmobiles, Buick engines in Pontiacs, Olds engines in Buicks....
Which was almost nothing new: since 1971 some Pontiac cars like the Firebird and the Ventura came with 6 cylinder Chevy engines. 2 years later Olds and Buick also received the same inline 6 in some of their cars. This continued on well into the mid 1980's. 3,054 posts, read 4,008,420 timesThe bore was so wide that it was "siamesed" (similar to another GM 400 CID small block motor) there was no space for coolant flow between the cylinders. Actuly truth be told any other division's engines were better than the pos chevy. Only morons lining their pockets in the board room think the piece of s#!+ no power no gas milage chevy engine was ok. Now back to topic at hand; The 403 in completely stock form wasn't much on power (but still spanked the chevy engines of the day). But replace the stock no duration no lift cam with even a stock cam from the late 60's, 3 angle valve job, early pre-egr intake, and it made great power. I've made ver 550 hp with a 403 and yes, it lived.
