But for many teens, it is a rite of passage that is out of reach. The high cost of attending senior prom is simply beyond many people's budgets. Tickets, attire and transportation can easily add up to hundreds of dollars .

Operation Prom of Indian River County was created to help lessen that financial burden by making sure every teen had the opportunity to "shop" for a dress or tuxedo that shows off their own style. "A high school senior prom should be a night to remember," says Operation Prom Chair Neda Heeter. "Our goal is to provide the teens of our community with the opportunity to attend their proms in style so they can feel confident, part of the group and celebrate their accomplishment with their peers. "They are creating memories to last a lifetime. Often, life celebrations — such as one's senior prom — are taken for granted."So on March 19, Operation Prom turned the Heritage Center into style central — the spot to find the perfect outfit for that special evening. Teenagers were welcomed to browse through racks containing more than 300 dresses, tuxedos and suits, all in pristine condition — including many new or never worn options. The selections rivaled designs found in high-end boutiques — and all were free.

Pre-registration and financial qualification were not required — teens simply needed to show up. The process was also anonymous so that no one felt ashamed or intimidated."

A1 Pool Supply Las Vegas NvAccording to Kelly Peters, Operation Prom committee member and president-elect of the Junior League of Indian River, "JLIR is proud to partner with Operation Prom for our Spring Community Impact Project.

JLIR is about promoting voluntarism and training women to be future leaders. Community Impact Projects are just one way JLIR actively contributes to the community and engages with individuals in need."Each teenager was assigned a personal shopper to assist them in their selections. The shoppers helped with the entire process, from perusing the racks of dresses or tuxedos, setting up private dressing rooms and helping choose accessories to round out the outfits. It was very much a high-end experience with all the bells and whistles. "Watching the girls as they try on their selections is one of the best parts of the event. They tentatively emerge from the dressing rooms and show off their selections to the volunteers that are assisting others," said Heeter. "As they hear the compliments, their faces light up. They twirl, pose and show off the dresses. The teens leave the event full of confidence, looking forward to celebrating with their friends."The boys were no different. With the shoppers' expert assistance, the boys sailed through the experience — overwhelming for even mature men before their wedding day — grinning from ear to ear.

White Glove Moving and Storage contributed by transporting all the dresses and tuxedos to the Heritage Center. It was a daunting exercise to move hundreds of gowns and tuxedos without them becoming wrinkled or damaged.White Glove's Anna Valencia Tillery volunteered at the event as a personal shopper. "This was our third year participating at this event and we just love being part of it. It meant so much to me personally to see the joy on the kids' faces when they found the perfect dress," she said. "I think it's amazing how the community all comes together — from the donors of the attire to companies like White Glove — to help our youth and let them have the full experience of their senior proms." Donations of gently used prom-appropriate attire may be made at the VNA Hidden Treasures locations — at 656 21st St., Vero Beach, and 11646 U.S. 1, Sebastian — during regular business hours. Please place a tag on the hanger identifying that it is for Operation Prom IRC. , or find them on Facebook at Operation Prom IRC.

The retailer sells clothing and accessories aimed at teenage boys and girls. Aéropostale is the latest in a string of bankruptcy filings by teen clothing retailers over the past year or so. Delia's, which sold clothes and accessories to girls and teens, liquidated its stores in Florida. Cache, a common stop for prom dresses in malls such as Tyrone Square and the Westfield malls in Countryside, Citrus Park and Brandon, shuttered stores and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year.
