Blood donors can donate at the hospital’s Blood Donor Center, open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Call 985-873-4025 or 985-873-4029 to make an appointment. The Blood Donor Center is located on Belanger Street across from the parking garage in the Annex Building. TARC’s Mardi Gras beads business, Buy-U Beads, is in need of donated Mardi Gras beads to help provide jobs and work for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Buy-U Beads business began four years ago and has grown from two clients to six individuals and one staff member to six staff members. The workers are experts at their jobs, but need more business to meet the demand for riders of krewes. TARC is asking area organizations, churches and schools to organize bead drives to help create work and jobs for the business. Please note that the Downtown Houma Market, located in the downtown Courthouse Square, is closed for the season.

The first market of 2016 is set for March 12. Located at 4484 Highway 1 in Raceland, this market is open from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturdays and features an open-air pavilion where farmers, fishermen and artisans come together to sell local products. The Market, located next to Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve in Thibodaux, will open for the season on April 11. The Market will open each Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and feature a variety of fruits, vegetables and other offerings from local farmers. Christmas trees are collected in Lafourche Parish during this time to help control coastal erosion. Trees should be placed curbside and be bare without ornaments, flocking, tinsel or stands. No artificial trees are collected. All trees placed curbside after these dates or any tree that is not recyclable will be picked up with regular garbage pickup. Enjoy and evening of fashion and entertainment at this event to raise money for Lydia Cancer Association, an organization offering services to those with cancer in St. Mary, Iberia, St. Martin and Vermilion Parishes.
