For the 2010 models, the second generation of the Buick LaCrosse was introduced as a replacement for both the Century and Regal sedans in the Buick lineup. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse now replaces the Lucerne as the flagship sedan for the car manufacturer, as it has been cast as the car for the “”new Buick”” lineup.

The 2012 Buick LaCrosse has gained a new entry-level model that is equipped with the eAssist hybrid powertrain. With the addition of the hybrid models of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse, the number of available trim lines has increase from three up to seven. Drivers can choose between four different models equipped with the new hybrid powertrain, or three models with the regular gas powertrain. Replacing the Lucerne as Buick’s flagship, the LaCrosse uses a mild hybrid drivetrain, dubbed eAssist, for its new base engine that boosts economy by 25 percent. The 3.6L is more powerful (up 23 hp) and lighter. Torque is up by 5 lb-ft. Dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, and USB port are now standard. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse is one of the sedans created by Buick to shake its reputation of designing conventional, even boring, sedans for an aging population. From the exterior, the design is much more up-to-date and striking, making it stand out from the crowd of midsize sedans in the parking lot.

The front end of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse sports the signature waterfall grille. The eye is drawn along the sculpted sheet metal of the sides of the car by following an accent line that runs from the headlight all the way to the taillights. The low profile roofline sweeps gently back to a shorter rear end of the sedan. While the design has been updated to try and attract a younger crowd, it has maintained its elegance so that it won’t completely alienate Buick’s traditional buyers. The new design is sleek, but not overly aggressive, and fit with 17-inch wheels as standard. Eighteen-inch and 19-inch wheels are both available as options, as are fog lights, a sunroof, and side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The interior of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse is a study in grace and elegance with flowing curves covered in high-quality materials. After dark, the ambient blue lighting of the instrument panel, console, and door pockets adds to the atmosphere within the cabin. Wood and smoked chrome accents provide a feeling of convention in with the modern look of the interior design.

The 2012 Buick LaCrosse can seat up to five passengers across two rows of seating. Seats are bolstered and provide plenty of support, and leg and shoulder-room is more than adequate for three passengers in the spacious rear seat. Although the cabin is spacious, the cargo area is smaller than many of the midsize sedan’s competitors. The cargo space is even smaller in the models fitted with the hybrid powertrain. Some may find the opening to the cargo area on the small side, making it difficult to load and unload. The standard safety equipment found in the 2012 Buick LaCrosse includes electronic stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assist, front-seat side-impact airbags, full-length side-curtain airbags, and the OnStar system, which comes with six months of complementary service before a subscription is needed. A blind-spot alert system, adaptive headlights, and rear-seat side-impact airbags are available as optional safety equipment. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse comes equipped with two different engines based on whether the hybrid vehicle is chosen or not.

The hybrid 2012 Buick LaCrosse is fitted with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine with eAssist hybrid technology, while the regular gas engine is a 3.6-liter, V-6 engine. Both engines use direct-injection technology, which leads to better gas mileage even with the larger, more powerful engines. The V-6 engine is a new, more powerful engine than the one found in the 2011 model, as it provides 303 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission is a six-speed automatic transmission, but both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive systems are available. Although the new V-6 engine is more powerful, the fuel economy ratings remain almost the same at 17/27 mpg city/highway for the front-wheel-drive vehicles and 16/26 mpg city/highway for those with all-wheel drive. The hybrid engine of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse is made up of the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine paired with an 11-kilowatt electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. It provides 182 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque, and comes with a six-speed transmission, front-wheel drive setup only.
